Just received my invite to join Ferrari at le Mans; accommodation, access, shuttle bus, hospitality, lunch and dinner and paddock access.

Sounds lovely... Unfortunately they also want €5125 from me for the two of us.

Usually begins, ‘as a special and valued customer of Ferrari’ ..... we’d like to sell you €300 of day out for €5k. It’s ridiculous, they should edit their mailing lists and only email people who buy new Ferraris. For the rest of us, the costs are insane for any Ferrari event.

Aston Martin are just the same. Their VIP package with access to their lounge and viewing balcony overlooking the Ford chicane with camping in a container on site is £6k per head inc food and drink

You have to put it into prospective. There was an article on the radio about the guy who owns Amazon.
If the average earner in the UK spends £1.00 of their worth the guy from Amazon would need to spend £1.5m in comparison.

Took up a similar offer from Lancaster's Colchester 2 years ago. It was a 4-day trip including staying in a luxurious hotel in the Loire Valley, a flight on a helicopter to Le Mans, visiting Chenonceau Chateau and a couple of other posh places including a vineyard with wine tasting.

From memory, there were 6 Maseratis, 10 Ferraris, one Porsche and 3 Bentleys. Jolly nice it was and it was less than €5125. Still fecking expensive and had to be done, but it wasn't as good value or as much fun as the SM tours.

Really? What do you need to prove ownership? I have a Porsche and have had many.

Saw it on a Porsche forum on Facebook. Arran will know more.
Basically if you can prove ownership of a Porker you get free access to Porsche hospitality.

Every tenth mofo at LM is in a Porsche. It’ll be carnage. Surely some mistake.

The Aston hospitality thang costs thousands - similar to the Lancaster Colchester junket.

I'm a Porsche owner and have been advised that Porsche are opening up their experience centre down by the Ford chicane just before the pit straight to anyone with either a porsche ignition key or proof of Porsche club membership.

As stated above, the place will be overrun and it will be carnage! Thousands of porsche owners attend and there will be nothing exclusive about it, but what do you expect for free?

I imagine the best proof of ownership would be a knackered IMS bearing :p

having never owned a porsche I had no idea exactly what an IMS bearing was and presumed it was a weak point on the cars, I watched the new series of wheeler dealers last night and it was all about the 911 (996) and Ant took care of the IMS amongst other things, the new upgraded replacement kit was interesting and expensive and how Porsche should have done it from the beginning, was it overlooked in the engine design or just cost cutting??

I saw that too, a sealed bearing in an engine. It was a fudge and it bit them on the bum. I suspect they needed to get the engine out in a rush, couldn’t get the oil flow to the bearing and didn’t have the cash to redesign the oilways so they went for the next best option.

You could just change the bearing every time you changed the clutch, but what a PITA that would be!

bizarre, at least it was accessible to a degree and not something buried deep that required engine out and major strip down to get to it, it is truly gobsmacking how well known upmarket marques still cock up engine designs and have premature failure due to inferior parts/material choice
