Bmw 8 series, lovely pillerless design.
Always thought the Alpina V12 would look good in a personal collection (in my dreams!)

The 8 looked brilliant when it came out....The design was very modern....A friend had one bought it from new and kept it for 15 years....drove it day in day out and never missed a beat. The Alpina is a very rare car and that one has low miles...Wouldn't have a clue if it was over priced or not.

Recall it, or similar, being less than half the price a couple of years ago.

Nope future classic for sure.

If I had £100k now to "speculate" with and room to store I would buy these

BMW 850CSi
BMW Z3M Coupe
RenaultSport Clio 182 Trophy or V6
Pug 205 Gti 1.9
Porsche 944 S2 or 928 GTS
Subaru Impreza Turbo 2000 (UK model standard)
Mazda MX5 Mk1.
Mercedes-Benz SL500
Lotus Elise S1

Nice list.
Looking at BMW 8 series there are a few nice ones for sale, but asking same, if not more than 4200 prices! How can you compare?

I have recently been discussing this with friends .
We think now that the "desirables" have moved out of most people's range, the others have followed panic buy style.
We are very close to a mkt top I think..but i suppose zero interest rates and qe put us in new asset price inflation territory and who really knows how much further we can go.
Personally I think the maserati Indy is underpriced now compared to say the ghibli.. Shame I can't afford one

I would normally agree BUT this time people are keeping hold of them and the cars are getting much rarer. I think people now realise that their money is safer in a car than in the bank and plus you get a real buzz from it. I know a guy who has millions in cars and has to have them valued every 3 months because there is such a change in their value all the time and the "agreed" value is constantly changing!

As a side note I was at at a hill climb in Ubrique yesterday as my friend was car zero in his gt40... I love these and would buy one in a heartbeat if I could ( they also hold their money)
Here's a pic.. It's a gtd replica but has been updated loads and is now As close to an original as you can get. It even has an original Gurney Weslake engine .

Classic sign of a market approaching a peak - the cars are not getting rarer it is just supply is falling as people see the next owner paying more. FWIW the effect works the same way going down so once the market tops out you get three years supply coming up for sale in the same year and prices drop a quarter in no time. Markets have worked like this since time began. If I have any of these cars and was not wanting them forever to enjoy then I would take my ££ and buy another asset class.

The thing with bank deposits is that if you keep each one below 100,000 euros then you are asset protected whereas a car that has doubled in value in the last two years can easily revert.

Always liked the 456, I love it's understated looks and it is a great GT car with a real heart. It might be at the lower end of the Ferrari line but it is still a Ferrari.

Not so keen on the 8 Series never have been whereas the original 6 Series I love :)

They seem to be going up in price. Last year I could see quite a few for sale on the 30k ish euro region.

Now, not even dogs can be seen at that price.

The 456m is quite expensive already

Yet it must be a sign of the current market that articles like this are identifying cars that are usually thought of as the bottom/least desirable of Ferrari's offerings.
Mondials and 400 have never been exactly popular, just cheap (relatively). I'd add 308gt4s to the list but they are getting very expensive too.
I'd love a 456 gt but I won't be getting one now unless there is a "readjustment" to the market. I saw a blue gt on ebay on the south coast up at 40k. I thought that a little pricey but it sold quite quickly so clearly I'm wrong!

Auto Italia has an article this month on £60k Ferraris. It said prices for the 456 start with decent ones at around 40k up to 70k for the best with manuals fetching the higher price. So £112k seems high unless it’s a very special model.

When I bought mine in 2012 with just over 20,000 miles for £25,000 people thought I was Nuts.

I love the 456, but hated the 612 when it came out as thought it looked like a bottom feeding fish.. but strangely now loving the 612. As an ex 456 owner are your eyes turned to the 612 now ? Seen a few around mid - high 50's so starting to look more decent value .

To be fair a few years down the line I'm finding the 456 more attractive but whether I would do it again I don't know.
