Hello helpful people. My seat heater comes on randomly on my 2012 GTS. Apart from an unwanted hot backside, should I be overly concerned? Is there a simple fix? Thanks.

Probably water dripped onto the controls and caused corrosion. I seem to recall they are not too hard to replace, but not sure as they don't appear to be available separately

Just found one on EBay from HRowen but it's £129. Might just put up with it!

Pull the fuse?

Thought about that but indi I've been using says he's not sure what else may be fed through the same circuit.
After looking at old threads, my gut feeling is this is a general issue caused by poor quality electrical parts and replacing it MAY cure it for a while but will probably come back. That's why when I asked what he would do, he wouldn't commit either way and changed the subject. He's had it a few times before but obviously has no definitive conclusion. (Other than it's probably a pain( a hot pain) in the back side!!

If only there was some way of finding out what circuits are fed by that fuse. It's a conundrum wrapped in an enigma and no mistake ;)

I wonder if it could be F52, 15A, under the steering wheel, top row, second from left.....

I had the opposite - heated seats stopped working! Passenger seat went first and between getting it booked in and it going in the drivers side stopped working too! Lots of head scratching at the dealer. Two visits later it was decided to simply replace all the heating elements under warranty. This started in February and got the car back (I've had it in between!) on Friday fixed - or at least I was told they were fixed but not actually tried them yet. I suspect electrical and nothing to do with the elements at all but that was the prescribed solution (aren't they simply a metal pipe - not quite sure how one can fail - let along two!!).

Doesn't help the OP at all except agree that electrical problems are a right PITA!

Manual agrees with you thanks. Not had the cover off before under the steering wheel. It feels on pretty solid and tight. Not sure how I should pull it off so I'll give it a miss for now.

Mine do exactly the same. I just turn the heater switch and it goes away until next time. I would be interested in any solution too

I took mine apart and squirted with electrical cleaner now works perfectly. Be careful iof the plastic tabs on the cover plate as they have a tendency to snap off

Pull the switch. Ive not done a GT one but they usually have two tabs on the shoulders of the switch that your press in so you can access the circuit board.

Alfa ones are on the top shoulders. If you look at the attached link for a qp switch you can see the tabs on the bottom shoulders.

Take the circuit board out the thumb wheel comes out with it. Then you will have a circuit board that looks something like this.
86658

Clean up the 4 arcs and the spaces between the arcs with contact cleaner and a cotton bud or suitable cloth. Also clean up the contact on the wheel or it may have detached from the locking position on the wheel. They are usually held in place by a small plastic pin you can glue it back in place if needed.

You have to drop the thumb wheel back into the hole at the top of the circuit board at the right point and then slide the whole circuit board back in to the switch cover until the tabs lock.

If the tabs break a spot of glue will be fine to lock it back together.

Link for the qp heated seat switch below where you can see the tabs on the bottom shoulders.

thanks for detailed explanation. Actually since I first posted problem it hasn’t happened again. At the time I think I did work the adjuster a few times and it would appear to have done the trick.
