Farewell my baby; hello my darling!

Well, after a nail-biting few months I have finally taken the plunge and said farewell to my beloved GS. For a while it looked as though I was going to have to buy something sensible but, due to a twist of fate (and the realisation that I was in a deep sulk), I followed my heart ... and stayed with Maserati. I don't think I could ever have lived without one!

The good news is that the GS (advertised through Dickygrace) is sold. The terrible news is that she is off to Oz: another loss to this community and a real shame. My sorrow is only tempered by the beauty of my new flame and the prospect of enjoying another few years (at least) of being a part of something truly special.

And boy these cars are special!

Thanks to Dickygrace for all his help in helping me part company with the GS - can't recommend his services highly enough. And to Marios at Autoshield for all his help over the years, and his help in my purchase of the GT. The Angels of the North?

Can't wait to continue sharing my experiences on this forum ...

Great looking car Froddy love it...and echo your Dicky Grace and Autoshield comments they are the boys who can and don't pick your pocket while doing it.

Enjoy it are you northern based? At a guess those houses look Altrincham or Hale to me?

Haha!

That would be fab, Max - would love to meet up - we don't have enough up here. And in warmer weather would definitely be better: had winter tyres on my GS and am really noticing the difference with the summers on this one. Guess it all adds to the learning curve!

Top colour combination and another set of plus points for Mr Grace.

Enjoy Froddy - not sure how Charlie Drake will react when he sees his catchphrase has been borrowed.

Hey Froddy, she looks a beauty.
I,m not too far away from you in sunny Southport, and definately up for a Northern meet or drive out.
How have you found the GT over the GS? Do you notice the extra weight, is the performance noticeably blunted?
I keep having moments of weakness, the thought of a GT with modern platform and switchgear over my GS occassional appeals.
The narrowing gap between GT & GS price makes a swop even more tempting.

Great to see another GranTurismo on here. I have winter tyres on mine at the moment. Well worth it for four months of the year.

Hi James,

Would be great to meet up, definitely ....

The GS and the GT are very different cars, and I'm sure you really need to be in an MC Shift to compare like with like properly.

My early impressions are that the GT is not as engaging as the GS, which is smaller, more raw and more nimble. In normal mode the GT suspension feels quite soft, which can feel a little disconcerting to the unfamiliar, but in sport mode it feels nicely composed. The car is huge, there's no doubt about it, and parking can bring on anxiety! Whilst it's possible to drive the car on the paddles, the GT does not have the "theatre" of the GS as it's an automatic.

But there are loads of plus points. I love the fact that I can put my foot down at any point and not have to push sport mode to do it. The noise the GT makes in sport mode is sublime, and the speed of changes under hard acceleration is intoxicating. I love having all the electrical toys, and I love the quality of the finish: it really is a serious piece of kit. As with the GS, I love the looks people give, and the way people wind down their windows to hear you drive past.

So it's a trade off: if you want the driver's car, go for the GS; if you want a grand tourer, go for the GT. They are both fabulous machines. If, like me, you have a GT itch to scratch, prices are coming down nicely, as you say!

thanks for that Froddy, really interesting read. I agree, the MC shift is a fairer comparision. Looks like i may be saving the pennies for a little longer then.
I'm up for a blast with the North West boys, how about the Evo triangle ? This one of Ians (bennyd) favourite routes a think?.
