Fake Stradales

I used to get annoyed when I saw dealers selling face lift GT’s as Stradale’s….Eapecially when a main dealer as well but now I really could not give a flying feck as let’s face it i blame Maserati. They make a face lift car with the same bonnet, same rear end as a Stradale and call it something different then clearly some will be confused. To the untrained eye it is a Stradale. It is just that we are Maserati fans and know the models inside out. A chap on Facebook posted a picture of his very lovely red facelift GT and said he bought a Stradale….I told him how lovely it was but Maserati never made a face lift Stradale and put him straight…..After reading it back to myself I though I sounded a right cock and I should have been wearing anorak…..

it is certainly confusing as one could argue they did make a “facelift” Stradale in so much as the original one had for example, only two CF seats and steel bonnet and then the next version (the UPGRADED one ;) ) had the correct amount of seats #4 CF redesigned bonnet.

I just hope that those buying understand what they have bought.

Not all buyers do understand. I know one of my customers had a 2 seat, then bought a 2018 ‘MC’ which he was sold as a Stradale, he sold it and bought a proper 2015 Stradale from me. The standout features of a 4 seat Strad are the gearbox and the ceramics, both of which are not on a 2018 MY MC.

I’d leave the anorak on the hook if I were you ;):p
Ok it’s not steel, but then I was right that it’s not carbon fibre :p you are correct in that I certainly don’t wear an anorak

I put my anorak on for a moment earlier this week and emailed 4CPrestige re the "fake" Strad and I was a bit more direct than Scaf - Chris, one of the partners as mentioned above actually answered me very quickly and told me about the AutoTrader/DVLA issue. He did agree that is was not a Strad and told me he would amend his own website but could do nothing about AutoTrader. Let's see if he keeps his word but I think I'll leave my anorak on the hook and if anyone wants it to follow up they are welcome to it. Maserati certainly have a part in this, but i just feel for the buyer when he finds out (probably here) and then realises it's going to depreciate a bit more than he originally thought....

I get your point to an extent but the buyer has a backside, hands and eyes presumably so it's not like they won't have had the chance to look, feel and experience the car before buying it. If they like what they see, hear and experience then surely the exact model name is pretty irrelevant. If they were buying blind with no pictures or opportunity to view and test then that would be another matter, but I can't see how that would happen.

Point taken but what about resale value? If you’re selling it as a more rare Stradale and it depreciates like an MC then you have a problem, or rather the buyer has a problem.

I take it you’re the person I emailed?

There is a private one falling into the same trap. Unfortunately, as a semi retired dealer in Depreciation Proof Supercars. I know just how much standard GT MC/ S depreciate. I lost 8K on one in a year. But all in all, as seen in Europe, the Stradale versions are stable. So it could be construed as 'Fraudulent advertising'

Emailed me about what? Why would you have emailed me…? Mistaken identity I think!

I will check but the only emails I get are from people telling me I have won the Nigerian National Lottery via Western Union.

You can't of because I have won it every week for the last year. There is just a delay with the bank transfer apparently.

Must be mistaken identity then - same given name and first letter of surname, quite the coincidence!

Friday evening as a walked back from the pub I spotted / heard a Granturismo cruising aoround looking for parking, I stopped him briefly to say how lovey the car sounded and to say I also had a Granturismo and had recently changed it for a Stradale, he keen to point out that his was also a Stradale

Not for me to put him right, but suffice to say he had a gearstick and didn’t have carbon brakes, having said that his car looked and sounded lovely.

Just goes to prove that some owners out there may not realise what they have or have not bought.

The rear double exhaust and bonnet scoop should give it away as well as the MC speedo

The real one says MCStradale on the dash - yes you could replace it but on Alcantara you should be able to see a mark if it was.
