I wouldnt drive it.

Get it all checked out. The upper front wishbone bushes are the weak points on them.

Yeah I am not risking driving it so it’s parked up.

Front upper wishbones were replaced both sides around 600 miles ago.

Flat spots on the tyres is my educated guess. Had it before and it happens on cars which have sat for a long time. This is why it is recommended to over inflate the tyres prior to hibernation etc...

If the tyres are indeed brand new then get them rebalanced as something has gone wrong, weights fallen off? At the wrong place on the wheel etc.... Failing that a wheel has been buckled perhaps.

I think a full rebalance is required as a first stage to rule it out, if it solves it perfect.

I was just confused as it was running great for days after the new tyres were installed then all of a sudden the next day was driving like a pig.

Does sound more like a lost wheel weight. Going back to water in a tyre I had an occasional wobble on a wheel after getting the tyre replaced on the van and went back to my man who rebalanced it and it was worse, tried again and then we took the tyre back off and found about a cup full of water in there where the tyre had been out in the rain before fitting!

my vote would go on either a wieght has come off or you hit a pot hole and the wheel is not round anymore.

I will get the balance redone at the garage that fit them to check the weights and if there is anything wrong with the tyres.

As long as it’s nothing drivetrain related or to do with engine mounts etc things should be simple.

Thanks for the help guys.

Mike - out of curiosity - did you get this resolved? If so, what was the cause? I currently have a similar issue with a GS - a fairly violent shudder / wobble at a specific speed....

Not yet, I am away with work so haven't had a chance to get the car to the garage.

I'll update as soon as I know what the issue is.

Sounds like you have exactly the same problem as me, have you changed tyres recently?

no - I bought the car with awful achilles tyres...who in their right mind fits these to a GS?.....so i will change tyres first, check rims second and if all good will rebalance the wheels.

i'll let you know how i get on!

Mike, You should have bought a proper old school maser with the gearbox up at the front and the diff at the back!

Just an update on my situation, problem turned out to be a deformed tyre on the driver rear which was causing the vibrations.

The tyre was only slightly out but caused massive problems above 45 mph so if anyone has similar symptoms with no obvious sign get the actual tyre checked.

Thanks

Mike
