I would check the connections before replacing the actual sensor. I've had similar temp discrepancies on 2 Alfas and more recently a friends Fiat 5000 and it was just down to the connectors needing cleaning up.

Thanks but too late already changed it. There’s a connector in the mirror so you’ve got to go the whole hog anyway.

You may have been right. It was reading 1c in the garage today. Looks like I may have to take the door card off.
