Extended Manufacturers Warranty Cost

Just wondering what's the going rate for extending your Maserati manufacturers warranty for years 4 & 5 where you are?

Current rate where I am is EUR 3,650, plus a EUR 230 inspection fee to activate. The price here has come down as the 2 year extension price when I bought new close to 3 years ago was EUR 6,000, which I thankfully I didn't take up. I was told the extension warranty cover to 5 years is exactly the same as the 3 yr warranty, it's only once you look to get the cover for years 6 and 7 that its just engine and drivetrain cover.

Speaking in general terms of any car, motorbike , or household item. If it doesn't break in the first year then it's very unlikely to break in years 2-3 or much later in its life when it becomes worn out. See bathtub curve.
Now with a Maserati, it's similar but we know what wears out sooner, such as suspension bushes. So for €3,650 what else is it going to give you? Piece of mind for sure. My GT Sport had a new transmission fitted due to a fault. The previous owner had extended the warranty and was covered.
It could be worth getting an independent to check your car to check if something big will fail in years 4-5, it's a gamble but you want the odds to be in your favour

I never buy extended warranties for anything. They are a 'licence to print money' for the Suppliers & Manufacturers. I always rely on 'English law' (" Sales of Goods Act", "...fitness for purpose" etc..) to underpin any claim or argument with a seller or manufacturer and more often than not this approach is usually successful. I once suffered a failed drive shaft stub end on a 5 year old Ford car a few years ago now and using the "fitness for purpose" arguments, Ford eventually agreed to cover the total cost of the repair. Result!

No offence I get that but that wasn’t my question.

Note if you get extended warranty you have to do all maserati recommendations at all services, they refused an extended warranty request on gasket covers because i had not done the lambda sensor or charcial filter recommendations at previous services.

Indeed. I have also been told that ANY modifications would likely be used as a 'get out of jail free' card.

I mentioned an xpipe and car play and was basically told these would invalidate any drive train claim or any electrical claim!

To answer your question on cost, year 4 is about £1500 and a 4/5 is approaching £3000

Maybe I misunderstood?
Possibly, I was seeking the financial answer putting aside whether it’s good value or not as we all have different views I’m sure. Not seeking to have a go at anyone just seeking a comparison point(s).

Yr 4 alone was £2.4k incl VAT and Yrs 4& 5 together at the same time £3.4k incl VAT and pre-check.

And I also concur on feedback about any exhaust or Apple Car Play mods; both invalidate the OEM warranty.

Not sure on the costs of the 6 and 7 yr limited extended warranty - any views appreciated!

I bought the manufacturer’s year 4 & 5 warranty 11 months ago. £3k cost and haven’t stopped regretting it ever since as the car has only done 8,800 miles (now) and hasn’t put a foot wrong.

It sounds expensive when Porsche 2 year extended is about 2 grand I believe and offers the same cover as a new car warranty.

Mines coming towards the end of the manufacturers warranty so going to have to extend soon. For years 4+5 HR Owen are wanting £3600 or so and Meriden Modena quoted around £3400. Expensive

Given how much (or little) it cost to insure your car in comparison, warranties are a rip off. They are only an insurance policy for the cost of component failure.

Why not self insure by opening a separate bank account and putting an amount in per month. Need to start with a fairly sizeable amount e.g., £1K just in case, But at least the money is still yours and no fighting with the .warranty people as to whether the item your claiming for is wear and tear. Just a thought!

I'd agree at those values, also depends on your usage, if business like mileage much more of a risk, if say 5K a year mileage, certainly wouldn't bother.
My M140i is now on extended BMW warranty at £47 a month (fully comprehensive not just drivetrain which is cheaper) so if I sell tomorrow the payment stops, so no 1 or 2 year commitment that you would loose if you sell before the warranty requires renewal.

Be aware that you also have to pay fully up front which I was pretty surprised about; quite unusual in my experience not to be able to pay monthly. I asked several times!

Exactly, not good if you sell in say 6 months time.

That was the case with HR Owen. Although I spoke with Maidstone Maserati and they allow you to pay in six instalments so probably going to use them
