Expansion Tank

I’ve had a great deal of bother trying to source an expansion tank for my 4200, 2005.
I’m told Maserati no longer manufacture the RHD item ( I don’t know if this apply for LHD). Eurospares were initially able to supply a used unit for 22GBP but discovered it was LHD and were looking to source a supply from France, no luck to date.
My local main dealer said they had one in stock for A$260 but this turned out to be LHD also.
I’ve now ordered one found on EBay and am waiting for it to arrive.
My concern is that this item has failed and the lack of replacement, I suspect the garage may have been heavy handed in a hose replacement to have caused the tank to weep from the spigot? Where the mould joins the bottom of the tank.
Has anybody else experienced these issues?

For RHD expansion tanks have a look at the Fiat Doblo, readily available new online. It has 3 mounting points where as the Maserati only uses 1 however when I removed my old tank noticed the factory had trimmed the other 2 mounts off.

Well done FL510, how on earth did you discover that? The parts dept at my dealer here in Perth, they are very snippy when it comes to this kind of thing. I asked if there was a comparable part and they had no knowledge. Previously I’d phoned searching for something, they asked “Have you tried on line at Eurospares?” I said “yes” and they just hung up!

No worries always a win avoiding the Maserati tax. A car as ugly as the Fiat Doblo well least it’s good for something haha !

It wouldn’t surprise me that the factory just cut the tabs off, bung it in a Maserati box and add their markup.

The used expansion tank finally arrived in Perth from Brisbane, I took it in the local Repco and the helpful guys in there were able to give me the
FIAT OEM number 51717782
Lancia OEM number 51811408
and the manufacturer who supply’s wholesale outlets VAICO, their part number is V24-0297
Now to see if I can buy one off the shelf?

I’ve managed to develop the relationship with the Maserati parts supplier here in Perth by passing on the information uncovered on this forum, I gave him the part numbers to search but his system didn’t show a price and it wasn’t stocked, so the part would have to be shipped in, this is normally about A$75, then plus parts and mark up on that, so still better to get it off the interweb.
I’ve ordered the new Doblo tank which expected to arrive in anything up to 3 weeks.

Brand new ones to be had on EBay for £19.99 with free delivery. I would not cut off the redundant fixings as the factory do as this probably aids the cracking of the OEM unit.

New unit A$75 delivered to Perth Australia. The used unit was $85 inc delivery to Perth from Brisbane.
That’s about GBP 40-47 to you Sir!

Back on the road again, charged 30 mins labour by my garage to install the used unit. Expecting to wait another 2 weeks for the new unit to arrive and keep as a spare, lo and behold, it turns up 2 days later!
Great to be driving the car again, it’s easy take for granted what a great experience the Maserati is.

Great info , have ordered one once I could see the witness marks of calcified water under the tank. I was worried it was a leak after having the dash, heater core out though the smell was only apparent out side the car. Thanks for all the part numbers it made ordering a walk in the park
