Everything that’s wrong with Alfa in a statement.

Thought we were talking about petrol engines. EV, is some way off for the masses?
Abarth, is so niche as not worth considering.
Lancia? Who's that?
I would choose a small Alfa, because its economical, but above all, I would hope,
still offers a spirited drive and has style to match. Different proposition to Fiat.
Development on ICE has pretty much stopped. Remember they only have until 2030.
Abarths still sell in big numbers, so that’s the sporty hatch segment sewn up without having to do much more than the odd special edition here and there. Why spend money developing an Alfa hatch to steal sales from Abarth and to only last less than five years? Arguably, Alfa Romeo is now the niche, not Abarth.
Lancia is currently going through an expansionist phase - an entire model range is being developed benchmarked on Mercedes-Benz. Whether they make it to RHD markets, who knows.
The future for Alfa is SUV/crossovers and maybe an EV roadster.

With regards to the Giuliettas, we have 3, all diesel.

They are brilliant cars with perhaps the interiors not being up to Alfa spec. With regards to getting Lotus to do the handling, no need, they handle, stop, start and go well already. You see them everywhere so must be one of Alfas best selling models (I don’t know the stats).

They are even very reliable and was aware a replacement was due out shortly.

The car is shared with Vauxhall Astra so may have some Lotus in it already.

So with that said, Alfa should concentrate with this model first as with the move to EV, worries me with Alfa as in the past, it was always about the engine.

Likewise, this engine worry also applies to Maserati…take the glorious engines away and what have you got?

This should be a bit concern for a number of manufacturers.

I can only think of Lotus and Caterham who are renowned for the handling of their cars as opposed to the engines. And that's because they're light, can hardly get a light EV.

Most other manufacturers are known for the engines.

Stellantis have a problem of too many brands all competing for the same market, Imho. Vauxhall/Opel are no different to FIAT, Peugeot or Citroen. They've already started with badge engineering vans, all built in France. Maybe Peugeot are slightly higher than Citroen and will compete with Alfa, but Lancia being their premium brand has to fill a narrow gap between a Giulia and a Ghibli or a Stelvio and a Gracale.

Maybe, some brands will just offer the one car.
