Read somewhere today that the government are planing introduce Road Fund Duty (carctax) for EV’s to help plug the “Truss Gap” …….. no great surprise and it was bound to happen.

I imagine we could see a tax on EV Comany cars as well at some point.
As ever, it’s all in the timing. Three years ago (approx), the now PM (when Chancellor) announced a tax break to encourage people to buy EV cars. It made it the obvious choice. So, lots of people did. Now that they have, he can change the rules, and tax them for doing so. Just like being given a free phone, then being charged for the minutes.

Was always going to be the case but if you are in a three year lease then time to move onto the next pump prime incentive eurobox.

There is no such thing as a permanent incentive, I think most people know that. But I get the feeling..

Motoring is going to get expensive whatever car you own. Reminds me I must SORN my two summer cars later in the month.

there no disputing that motoring is becoming more expensive but my long standing " bee in my bonnet " rage is government and the general public coersing people to buy something that they deem good for you.

Freedom of choice should not be demonized

You dont get something for nothing in this world, any rational normal thinking person will come to that conclusion and so watch the onslaught of these eco warrior types bleet that its unjust they are now charged for motoring like everybody else.

It used to be called Road tax but the monies never went to the upkeep of our roads, but into government pockets.

So did they really think government would honestly let go of all that lost income without address ?????

Come on.......really !!!!!!!!

And it's a nice touch that there are certain ICE engines only pay £20/30

Gosh.......that was a little rant ‍♂

Since when has incentivising become demonising? Unless you’re a climate change denier it should be clear (if you bother to do your research) that EVs and other alternative clean fuels are the future of transport due to their lower (and this is an increasing trend going forwards) use of fossil fuels. So if the government policy is to avoid climate change they will want to implement said policy which means getting people to switch to EVs. Taxes are the tools they have for that. If you want to continue polluting at a greater level it is going to cost you, seems fair to me. You still have a choice ;)

Im not an eco warrior whinging about having to start paying Road tax.

And why should people switch to EVs ?

Are there not alternatives which are not pursued or the public not enlightened by government

Synthetic fuels, previously mentioned for example. An idea that would be more palatable by the wider motoring community and without the initial high financial outlay

But Noooooooo

We are forced the EV Avenue.........I call that coercion

Yes I own a V8 and would happily use a synthetic fuel if at the pump of high quality comparable to what is available now, 97+ Octane

But for the record, I dont like politics lol and yes you are correct ......tax the EV crowd

There is a large ev crowd on here, even with paying road tax, its still a good city car solution

I bet Hydrogen will be the next alternative fuel for the masses and the governments will also tax heavily…

£10 for the first year, then £165 there after... I doubt that is going to stop anyone filling the coffers of the Chinese any time soon.

One thing with EVs is how the most trivial squeak or rattle becomes so annoying as you have little other noise to cover it. Hate to think how older and bargain EVs will be like once a few years old.

Achieved mega MPG last week on one trip... if only this was always the norm.
