Just been looking at how the increase in fuel prices will hit EV charging costs as I am off on my hols again.

Looks like I will need to only reach 45mpg to beat the cost of using a charger at Booths @66p p-kwh (My nearest public charger whilst away)!!!... Hoping my own 8m 3 PIN lead is long enough to reach a plug at the holiday home.

I did wonder of the overall lifetime costs. My FIAT 124 Spider Lusso plus does an average 47 mpg, mostly 99 ron reasonable road tax and trivial depreciation. Need to try harder

With the cost of public high speed charging, and the escalating cap rates, very quickly there is very little saving, if at all, ICE vs BEV.
Saving only possible if you can off peak charge at home or use excess home solar during the longer days/summer.
Of course this immediately disadvantages those with no possibility of solar or off road parking.

Ha - yes I agree... I doubt we would break the bank as there is only 2 of us and the dog and the farm we rent has beds for 12, hot tub we wont use (Who want to sit in someone else's bath water for an hour?), games room (Won't use again) and as its summer no need for much lights or any heating.

Suspect TESCO and Sainsbury's etc will soon end their free changers too, or bring in a RIF card like their points scheme for there use

I checked on a PCP for a M3 Tesla, c 10k miles per year, 36m - total costs for a private use just under £30k... how can people burn that much money on a hatch back they never own?!?

We know a family that nips down to the local aldi to just say buy a bag of tangerines. So they can get a free charge!

Many do, and do far less than 8k a year.
However if you earn it.
All relative I guess.
I do think it has got out of proportion though.

I looked at the same thing, Peter, and rapidly reached the same conclusion.

Its just the current version of the trend twenty years ago to spend £20k+ to upgrade a petrol car for a diesel one to save £500 pa.

Ahhh Booths : the Waitrose of the North. Is this Lytham? I know a few home chargers there.

I stand corrected then
Both my lads’ Teslas were dropped off the back of a transporter in the road - no big showroom reveal. In one case the paperwork and some cash tfr had not even been completed!

Have driven them and impressed by performance: quite rapid - f knows what the dual motor is like as these are the base models. I find the central screen and all the flashing info a bit of a distraction but the grandkids like it for playing games from the front seats (when parked of course….)
