This seams to happen all the time to these cars. Dirt gets in there, combined with too small a gap in the initial settings. The problem is probably made worse with wet and gritty roads, and leaving the handbrake on after such outings. I'd happily delete my E handbrake.

AFAIR No noise - I noticed a couple of months ago the handbrake pulled up to the limit but was not holding well on a slope so I assumed it would be a manual job to tweak the adjuster. My indie put it on the brake test machine and found one side was different to the other so pulled the disc off to have a look and found the problem
