A quick question for you techi types, is it possible to prime the engine oil pressure before start up?
Thanks in anticipation

It is a mechanical pump so the only way is to throw the starter motor over in short bursts, not letting it fire, I do this a few times after an oil change, not sure it helps much in reality but as there is little choice it is the best I've come up with.

I suppose you could unplug all the coil packs?

Nope all you need to do is remove the secondary fuel pump relay in the boot .

Thanks Contigo I'll do that, on the Aston you push down on the throttle and clutch and hold down while you crank over the engine doesn't fire. When primed start as normal.

For a non engineering type person (me) why would you do this?

The engine turning over results in the same parts moving with the same wear???...or am I missing something.

It'll be turning slower = less pressure on some moving parts and reduced wear. and in theory oil pressure could get up to full operating levels before it's at idling speed. I rather doubt there's much difference, though. At least in most cases.

I thought it was the opposite of that, you are building pressure in the accumulator and running the oil pump longer so pressure is built and the variators are oiled (that's the rattle we all hate) when the engine finally fires into life which is important on these dry sump engines.
