Energy crisis

I'm looking round at the big boys but Martin Lewis says do not switch right now. Wait for your money to trickle through then switch.

Not sure I agree with Martin Lewis. But hey. Who am I?

I'd be switching now rather than in a few weeks when the price has risen further. You will get a standard rate which one of the big boys will put up. They won't do you any favours, and it won't be anywhere near what you have at the moment.

Having just read the daily update I get, prices have dropped today (a couple of a percent) but the long term prices are still up further.

I'll take a screen print and post it so you can all have a read.

Martin Lewis has been in the money saving business a long time, not just in energy so I'll take his advice. I get what you're saying but I'll also be deleting gas on my new contract so it gets more complicated.

As Martin states
Once you've been moved across, check if you can save by switching. You can ask the new supplier to put you on a cheaper tariff, but you can also move away to another provider without being charged any exit fees, so it's best to do a whole-of-market comparison – which you can do on Cheap Energy Club – to ensure you find the best deal for you.

If they go bust holding your money you might as well kiss it goodbye as you'll join the rest of the queue of creditors for your 5p in the pound.

Ofgem protect your credit in the event that your energy company goes bust.

I’ll just leave this here, for anyone who wants to read it:

I’ve seen a lot of people are automatically getting switched to British Gas.
If you are, switch as soon as you can.
Customer service is shocking.
had some fool telling me that £400 for 4 days gas was reasonable. ( even when it was pointed out that was more than we had used in previous 9 month.)This was when we were switching and an idiot at British has estimated out final bill instead of using the reading we gave.
it’s an on going battle.
They were most upset to find the DD had been stopped.

Getting hold of these people BGas, Virgin, NWater many more is increasingly difficult and so your individual circs are quite often overlooked. It is indeed a trial to get the right telephone number and speak to a human. I do use the chatbots and found them ok for routine stuff

BG’s customer service is truely appalling.
I went through a stage of not placing any business with them.
However, since I now have the head of SME for BG’s mobile number, I can speak to the organ grinder should have an issue rather than the monkeys.

British Gas customer service used to be very good. My FiT is with them and come to think of it, they are late in paying. The last one when through easy, paid up within a few days.

Becoming reliant on a totalitarian regime for our energy. What a good idea that was. If only we'd seen this coming. Cough! Cough!
If I was building my own place again, I'd be attempting to be as energy self sufficient as possible. If not, completely off grid.

If only there was some indication that this could happen, perhaps our Government could have stepped in and done something….

Wait, what, they did do something?

Oh, they caused it in the first place to allow their buddies / funders to ditch the counties gas storage too line the pockets of their share holders…

Hopefully everyone gets their stuff sorted / refunded / moved to another supplier etc.

I switched on Wednesday 15th to Shell and British Gas and immediately felt like I’d diddled myself out of 3 weeks on my old cheaper tariffs, which were expiring 8th October. Now I am relieved that I did swap on a 3yr fixed tariff. Smug - but maybe the energy providers will wiggle out of long term deals.
The press don’t seem to be making much news about the electricity cable from France being destroyed in a fire in Kent last week. The UK gets a lot of nuclear produced electricity from them and it won’t be back on till next March. Let’s hope it is a very windy and sunny winter. Like we never get!

What's the going price at the moment for a typical system?
10 years ago it was something like £15k, bought the Maserati instead!
We have a perfect south-facing unshadowed roof.
Always thought the cost must come down to the point where you can use all the juice especially if we have a hybrid, or EV, working largely from home during sunlight, without the feed in tariff, does that exist anymore for new installs?
