Electric Conversion - Would You?

From the Beeb:

The UK needs to create a new motoring tax to plug the revenue gap as drivers switch to electric cars, MPs have said.
The government should tax motorists based on miles travelled as the use of petrol and diesel vehicles decreases, the Transport Select Committee said.
If no action is taken this year, the UK faces a £35bn "black hole" in its finances, they said.
The Treasury said tax revenues would keep pace with changes prompted by electric vehicle take-up.
Sales of new petrol and diesel cars and vans will be banned in the UK from 2030 and sales of electric cars are already soaring.
Taken together, vehicle excise duty - better known as "car tax" - and fuel duty that motorists pay at the pump, raise around £35bn a year, but neither tax is levied on pure electric vehicles.
The committee warned there is likely to be no revenue from existing tax sources by 2040.

2040 is just an estimate based on and estimate of an estimate...sale of petrol will continue for some time after unless 2040 is a date it is banned.

The government will simply shift the tax to other goods and sources...

By the year 2040 most likely we will see more Toll roads and mandatory vehicle tracking blackboxes, per KW of electricity will probably be taxed to the hilt too... new vehicle car taxes will be heavy, existing petrol and diesel fuel will only be affordable by the wealthy if you can get it.
Oxygen and water will also be taxed by the government.... as basic elements of Hydrogen

I… wouldn’t. Great electric (or hydrogen, or something else green) cars will come along. Sustainable transport (not convinced its electric with recycling issues etc) will come, but it’s all about daily use. I could see me with a lecky shitbox for commuting, I wouldn’t want to be on the road in an old tin can all the time, nor would I want the issues you inevitably get with a conversion.

There is always an exception though, this looks perfect, goes faster (with 9x the original power) and at 150 miles range probably further than an original, only weighs 40kg more, and doesn’t really compromise space much more than it was in the first place either…

Having had many Classic Minis over the years since passing my Test in a 850 back in 79 there's something about the A series and the gearbox that just make them Fun with modest power.
Put a second fuel tank in as per the Cooper S and double the distance and job done ;)

How about not full electric, but a plug-in hybrid? Say 100kW extra little electric friend, with enough battery so you can do home-work-home with electric?

And if you feel like it you get the combined force - I suspect fastest biturbo or ghibli ever.

I've been planning such a kit, please let me know any interest!
