Thinkin on getting this for the GS as an upgrade, £500 over here, but have found in Germany for about £340, the question is will I have to pay any import Duty or VAT these days?

I think the way it work now that for UK the price is VAT free, hence looks cheaper then you pay UK VAT and duty on import so things balance out sort of. Probs the duty is the difference less/plus variation in VAT rate, in this case 20% UK, 19% Germany, so you lose 1%!

No idea on Duty, but that does look good and from a decent manufacturer.

I have a similar Alpine unit in my GS but at least 10 years old... works fine but so slow and clunky compared to a smart phone.

Let me know how you get on.

I have known "ahem" people that have had parts from the EU and not been charged anything extra, either vat or duty.Think its a bit of a lottery at the minute.

No duty between the EU and UK, but VAT at 20% to be added to the price if identified through the importation process. This is generally what happens if an international courier is used. If it comes by national parcel post service, it might escape if your lucky. Depends what the packaging says

I wouldn't bother. It'll only play German radio stations. :p

Is it worth the hassle, think what a pain in the backside it will be if there is a fault.

I made this mistake importing parts for my Mustang, in the end I bit the bullet and paid more for a U.K. supplier.

I still have a radio that went wrong and was not worth the pain of trying to return it, looks good though.

Well, it's fitted, there was a cable that should have gone to the handbrake, which I did not connect, and now Android auto won't work as apparently it will only work with handbrake on, which I never use, so, is there any way of bypassing this, so I can still use it?

Handbrake switch is just on off so surely you can just bridge the connector from the radio.

I suspect then you can connect it to ground and it'll be fine. But you only have two options, and I really doubt that either will damage anything so try each.

My money's on ground because the instructions are effectively saying 'connect to the live input on the parking brake switch' the switch will, I am certain, connect to ground so.....

I simply cannot recommend a Sealey automotive probe enough for this kind of stuff

I had the AX8000 installed in my GS for a while. On that one I just hard connected the handbrake line to ground and that was good enough to shut it up. They too said it was smarter than that but it really wasn't.
