It's not this... this has been checked
My transmission issue which sent me on a wild goose chase ended up coming back as a failing wheel bearing. Loss or incorrect speed rotation signal from a sensor throws the gearbox and I turn clutch into panic.
Occasional transmission go to dealer errors that cleared on restart. Dropping out of gear on high gear changes (5/6) then not being able to select any gear.
None of the usual ABS/ASR/Traction lights till it finally went about a year later.
This was prior to my Sportsitalia days and another indie looked at my “gears with opposite shift” error and diagnosed the gearbox pots which turned out to be a red herring.
What I now do with anything gearbox related is connect diagnostics with live wheel speed sensor data, drive the car in a straight line and watch for one corner being behind or infront to the other three.
I also do this test with any car throwing wheel bearing ABS issues as we’ve been down this route before in changing the wrong bearing as SCAF will testify too.
Also a point to note, Maserati invert their wheel speed sensor codes left to right. What this means is that a generic code reader will say it’s front right when it’s actually front left and vice versa for the rear. Something to watch out for that has caught us out.
To confirm the corner from my tests above bearing in mind generic code readers inverted results, as a final check, on a ramp with the live wheel speed sensor data stream, spin the suspected corner and confirm it’s the correct side on diagnostics.
