Do you get what you pay for with servicing?

So, a major service with all the bells and whistles (but no additional work) is circa £2000 + Vat (i.e. £2400) at Sports Italia, which is great value. And means that the McGrath quote of £2800 isn’t so far off. But as mentioned above, some of the work suggested for the “full” major service (such as Lamda sensors) are often omitted, and hence a lower price achieved.

The list of prices from Matt is useful, comprehensive, and hard to beat.

Yep, McGrath quote included Lamda sensors

One thing that I know that SportsItalia do and is mentioned, is inspect.
I cannot emphasise enough having a good look at the condition of the underside of any car especially the subframes. Noting anything that might require work now or to keep an eye on in future.
It has been known that main dealers only give a Halfords style fluid change.

Your quite right. I was discussing this with Ash and we came to the conclusion main dealers only complete the tasks it’s booked in for then the ramp is cleared on time for the next booking.

What we do is report all or any issues then parts are ordered and the ramp essentially becomes blocked.

This then impacts the next booking for that ramp and we fall behind.

We could do as the dealers and maximise the turnover and profit but that’s not why we do it.

This is why cars that come into us take longer. It’s a tricky one to balance as a blocked ramp causes workflow issues and in turn less revenue.

My nieces boy friend bought a Mercedes AMG GT from GVE about a year and a half ago and he had no issues with the sale and after sales.

Geesus have i missed a few years or what Andy, you were never old enough to have a niece who had a boyfriend that could drive, let alone drive an AMG Merc

100%. Mine had its annual service at a main dealer and then went to an indie for some tuning work. They found a couple of things that needed doing (high-pressure oil pipes for the gearbox needed replacing and some loose heat shields) that the MD had failed to spot because the service manual didn't tell them to look.

In fairness to Dealers it's the Management that's the problem and I've worked for a few.
Mostly the technicians are good.
For a longtime I have been the oldest tech on the tools and did a lot of variator work when at Maserati as I could do it.
Some will never be more than service techs.
I have been happy to pass my skills on as I was grateful for the guys who taught me.
When in NZ with my Daimler XJC taking the head off at home was an easy task even not having done one for over 30 years.
Sadly some youngsters don't want to get into the technical stuff would rather plug the diagnostic gear in.

I have used SportsItalia on two occasions, most recently was last week. I am very impressed by their customer centric attitude , attention to detail and fair pricing.. I would not consider taking my car elsewhere and certainly not to a well known Main Dealer in Surrey who should be charged with fraud and deception on a grand scale. ( I have the proof)

I've been doing further research in to running costs and found a bill for front brake discs and pads.

Is this the usual going rate for discs and pads?

Sorry Matt. My mistake. I think my message wasn’t written as well as it might have been.
What I meant was that the major service (inc spark plugs etc) is £1400 plus Vat, and the lambda sensors are £600 plus Vat, so the “full” service becomes £2000 plus Vat which is £2400. So, very good value compared to a quote of £2800.
Though of course, the lambda sensors don’t need replacing quite as often as Maserati suggest, so the £1400 plus Vat figure is more usual, as you correctly say.
There is no doubting that you guys provide excellent service and value and I am a very grateful recipient of that.

Ok, I guess they will add stuff on then.

Here is a public quote of £950 for major:

and one for £980:

Is there something missing?
Never heard of GVE - and the "Major Service" seems very cheap ! I have used several outfits since 2006. Used to live in Bedordshire but still sent my car to SportsItalia.

Main dealers never again. Charged for work clearly never carried out.
McGrath - sent my car here when faulty. They strongly advise a "full inspection" before stating any repairs. Turned out to be the best £160 ever spent on my QP V. The report was two pages long with must do items, advisable then nice to have handily In these colours. Still have this report and work in-progress on some. Strongly advise this service if local to you.
"Supercar servicing" sent my QP to shoddy garage in Dunstable who might have changed the oil but dare not change the plugs. They were terrified coil pack would fail. Hid this from me until I challenged them.
Bell Sport & Classic in Marykate. Wonderful people, recommend without qualms. Go visit - just. to ogle :D
Barr Tech in Canbridge. Lovely guys who restored my 911. Their engineering skills beyond reproach but last visit it was just the two brothers so can get very busy.
