Difference between QPV and GTS Stradale

Hi all, hankering after a GTS Stradale but just want to know how much of a step change it will be vs my QPV GTS which I love.

Sound - on a scale of 1-10, how much better does it sound? Assuming race mode etc
Driving - again, how much of a change is it to drive?
Maintenance - assuming similar ie high
Looks - worked that one out for myself
Value retention - seems like the earlier 2 seaters have held their value well; do we expect the newer gen to do likewise?

Thanks in advance

Never driven a QP GTS but I can tell you about the Strad over a normal GTS which I would say is more akin to your QP GTS.

It stops, as you would expect from Carbon Ceramics
It handles but you have to be careful of understeer at lower speeds....breaking hard and turning in
Tyres, get rid of PZeros for Michelins.
Loads more feedback though the steering as it does not have Skyhook and a more traditional springs and dampers setup. The GTS always felt disconnected
Trinkets...all the seats and bits make if feel very special (2 seater carbon seats from an Enzo)
Value. The 2 seater Strad (IMHO) is what MCV was to the GranSport. Ok they are pricey at £60k but prices will rise.
Noise. Mine has Larini Sports Cats and Larini X with OEM rear cans and its ear splitting. Here is a vid of it with SC and H pipe....change to X took it up several notches:

The answer to some of questions depends on which QP V GTS you have. Do you have the facelift car with the 4.7 engine, or the earlier version with the 4.2?

If you have the 4.2 version, the Strad will sound considerably better and louder. But if you have the 4.7, pressing Sport in the QP will make it sound similar to pressing Race in the Strad, as those are the "open" valve modes for each car.
I'd say the Strad is the better drive when really pressing on. But both are based on the same original chassis and both have fixed rate conventional dampers (not skyhook) so it's not exactly chalk-and-cheese difference.
Maintenance costs will be very similar.
Values of the early 2 seat Strads are fairly static now.
Values of the later 4 seat Strads are still falling slowly, but should plateau soon.
Values of the QP V GTS cars are also still declining gently. But again, these will plateau.

A 4.7 QP V GTS can be had for mid/low twenties. So to swap to a 4 seat Strad you'll need to put in another £40k or so. It's quite a big jump, and many parts are the same. But given the choice, I'd rather have the Strad.

As a quick aside, earlier in the week I drove a 2 seat Strad and then my GC-MC. Even with the roof up on the Cab, my car in Sport was noticeably louder than the Strad in Race. Both cars have the same exhaust system, but it certainly showed how much better the hard top is at keeping cabin noise levels down as compared to the soft roof.

Okay, this is really useful, thank you.
I have the facelift 4.7 and suspect mine would go for mid to late teens because of the higher mileage, so would require considerable outlay. The difference I would achieve would be the relative beauty of the Stradale vs QP but not such a stark difference to justify the significant jump in outlay IMO but **** I’m still tempted!!

Interesting on prices though because in my simple mind I see the earlier stradales going for a relative premium considering their age vs 2015/16 Stradales. Can anyone comment on that? Were there fewer made, is the 2 seat carbon option more desirable as a collector? I need 4 seats and like the bonnet on the later model more but don’t like the latest GT’s front end

From memory, there were something like 40 2-seat Strads sold in the UK, verses about 100 of the 4-seaters. So, the 4 seat was more popular (largely because it’s more practical, but also, arguably, because of the improvement in the economy). As for collectorbility, get your crystal ball out. But I’m in the 2 seat camp.

That said, the convertible version is even more rare. And louder.

If you have a QP GTS you have the best value Maserati on the market. where current values are 22k to 26k it's so much Maserati for the money. I would get out and drive a Stradale.....I have driven a two seater and it was such an event. The noise, those seats, those looks....but drive and ask yourself is t 40k better than your current car. Don't have that answer I'm afraid as only you can answer that one. Have fun deciding.

great thread! I think Ewan has hit the nail on the head, the GranCab MC is the one to have if you don't need your Maserati to play a utility role.

As it stands with two pre-school children, I use my QP V GTS as a 'daily' (relative in London) and with 450L of boot space it's fine. In realistically 3 years time, when both boys can both crawl into the back and there are no more prams (other kit save for small bike/scooters be damned), I'd also like to try a Stradale (4 seater) as the family 'daily'. With 261L of boot space I think it's doable, especially with another car for use on bigger family trips with luggage.

With 173L of boot space, I can't see the GranCab working as a 4 person daily. correct me if I'm wrong

Speaking of which, has anyone tried the newest >MY 2018 GranCab MC (with the giant screen) vs an original GranCab MC like Ewan's? Just curious to what extent the cars have been refined aside from aesthetics, especially as I don't believe there were any major mechanical changes like the Strad--> MY 2018 GT MC (semi to ZF, ceramics to steel etc).

I recall someone saying on here they could see their >MY 2018 GT had some substantial changes underneath when it was up on a ramp

I also would recommend the GCMC, its become very cool and was overlooked for many years.

While the cab will fit 4 people, it will not fit 4 peoples luggage. Unless you travel very light. Last summer we used ours for a family surfing holiday in Cornwall, but hired the boards and wet-suits down there, so only had to pack a few light clothes. But let's not kid ourselves, it's not really an option as a family daily car. My wife and I tend to use our respective Range Rovers as our daily cars, especially in the winter. Then when the sun comes out, I then unleash the other more occasional toys (Ferrari, Venturi, Porsche, Maser, Merc, etc).

Maybe it's my octogenarian ears, but my 13 Sport in Sport mode(is there any other?) is as loud or louder than that film clip. Especially when I am downshifting through the gears. ViVa Italia.

It won't on video but believe me in the flesh it will. My 14 Sport is a whispering machine and can't wait to get at least an H pipe on it. Too muted as standard even in SPORT M mode.
