As is my latest drab work car...I think it may survive three years but by then it will have doubled the miles to 150k

Some years ago I got a lift in a BMW , it went like a stabbed rat , when I got out I was surprised to see it was a 330D but it had been chipped
I needed a load logger so I've just bought a 20 year old 530D for the princely sum of £300 , for this it has MOT , many working things, some not working things and a little bit of rust
I may chip it if I can find a chip thing for less that 30% of the value of the car

I have remapped our 530d. Took it from 245bhp to 300bhp and 620nm of torque. Actually there was another map for more but I went for the "middle" option which is supposed to blend power and economy. It's gone up by 4mpg and has more than ample power. Actually there's a 535d as well which is almost exactly the same except for another turbo, and so I'm happy that the gearbox and other drivetrain infrastructure can easily handle the extra boost. I did wait until it was out of warranty before going for it, just to be on the cautious side.

Last week I learned that a mapped 535d will hang on to the tails of V12 Fezzas and Astons. Real Q car. If I had a soot-chucker I'd investigate for sure.

Some say that it ran out of steam around 140 or so.......

It's a 335d M sport X-drive that he claims is a 318i.

My 300bhp 530d is plenty fast so those 335s are just plain silly.

Nought wrong with that!

All of this sounds just super

Even if I don't get good news about 'mine' tomorrow / early next week, another XF S diesel will be on the cards....

Hope it gets sorted Chris as I rate them highly and mine has been amazing and certainly suits my needs for the money.

Some might believe they are speed limited to around 15% above that. None on here could possibly comment.

Hmm

Of course no fault found, and they can't reproduce it. Fortunately the AA resent the report, which I just mailed them.

If that one's toast, I won't even look at anything else, but might well look for evidence of a gearbox oil change or two....

My cheap BMW isn't happening, couldn't get an insurance quote under £470 but changing 330D to MX5 results in a quote of £106

Jag diesel's.. mate you should know better! you've got about 18 months are so before your off the road as there not the cleanest of things emission's wise!

Dave

Come on, you've just made that up , they're still selling Euro 6 Diesels, are you saying a new 50k BMW is going to be scrap in 18 months

Also I'm surprised the apostrophe alarm hasn't gone off in CM Towers

Because you bought a jaguar or something else.

I'm going to that London tomorrow , I'm missing my open top fix so just bought a 20 year old MX5, if you're coming back down the M1 mid afternoon and you see an AA van going north it could be looking for me me.

I'd really recommend Angel Tuning, they're based in the south, but as I got 3 cars done they were willing to travel oop north for me.

Got the Maser, Abarth 595 & Nissan Navara all stage 1, well within the cars capabilities.

Really know their stuff, was roughly £300 a car. Biggest different was the little Abarth!

Lets' leave it at that.*

*there, an easy one for you, to get you back in the game.

******* :D

Just work stuff / home stuff all seems to happen at once. The absence of a half way sensible car is simply the icing on the cake :)

OTOH none of it is actually critical so WTF ;)

Home stuff , my daughter decided to clean the kitchen , I get a phone call , did you know the kitchen sink had a crack in it
I get home , crack , its 12mm thick ceramic and it's got a hole in it but she didn't drop a big metal scale weight in it while she was moving it , it was there when she started
£200 and a day fitting a new sink , great

That pales into insignificance compared to a day driving home from London , I have no idea how people do it on a daily basis , though I did see somebody who has decided he doesn't want to pay the ulez or congestion charge , a biker came past with a red elasticated cotton bag over his number plate , stopped just after coming out and took it off , he's probably not thinking about the dozens of people with dashcams recording his every move
