Diesel chiptuning

So I think (assuming I get it back and it's not scrap) I have a 3L TD in my XF S, good for about 275ish BHP.

I can't help but notice that chip tunes are available that make claims for up to another 75bhp. I get with a petrol that this would be, at best, 'unlikely' but a Turbo diesel? About the cost of a take a juice, and I recall lots of people on here saying how they had have (I think?) Golfs done?

So someone tell me I shouldn't?

Cheers!

I looked at it for my van but was advised not to buy a pre tuned box but to take it to somewhere that would tune it based on live data

Made sense to me so I left it alone

Bought a map for my Alfa 2.4 off tinternet and loaded it with MPPS. Huge difference in power, torque and driveability and improved mpg - would do it to any turbo diesel if they weren't now the spawn of satan

Get it done, you won’t regret it. Key is finding someone reputable and close by to provide any backup should you need it. I gained an additional 55hp on a car I had which significantly reduced in gear times when recorded with a data logging box. 75 seems optimistic, but even if you got less it would still be a result and very noticeable with the torque increase

I had a diesel outlander a while back and bought a ralliart box for it programmed by Mitzi.. The difference was really noticeable. So much so that in later models they installed it as standard. Took it from 140ish to 170bhp.

Go to Jaguar specialist tuner and get it done, shouldnt be much more compared then a ebay box. Turbo diesels are easy to chip for good gains. Had a 25% gain on my lease car.
Similar to the newer petrol engines which have the same engines but are only limited by the ECU. So you can buy a 100hp car, spend 500 on a good tune and you get the 150hp that otherwise would cost you 5 grand extra at a dealer.

I've looked at this in some length. You can get remaps that will comfortably take the XFS to 350BHP.

Loads of places will do this.

However, with the power increase the torque increases massively. I think to something like 700nm.
The problem you have is that the gearbox has a maximum torque rating of 600nm.

Obviously you aren't going to use the 700nm all the time, and the gearbox will 'probably' take it. But as a work horse would you want to take the risk?

I didn't. This is why I decided against the remap.

Happy with mine as it is and has been totally reliable for 7 months.
You have a separate car to tick other boxes for me my Boxster.

Had my Alfa GT remapped with an ODB uploaded map - the difference between that and my Bosses 147 was night and day performance and driveability wise, MPG was marginally better too - I wouldn't hesitate to do it to any diesel car I had.

Yep. Specialist is so busy it won't get checked until Friday. Dealer gave me another courtesy car (V70 D5) which is 'OK' but still a royal PITA
