Developed an odd creak

Hi Guys.
On the way into work this morning I noticed an odd creaking sound from the front/engine area of my 3200.

the easiest way to describe the noise is it's like the sound made by the brakes when the car wants to move and is held on the brakes but you just let off a little, letting it barely creep forward, only this time, I'm pretty convinced is not a brake noise.

intermittently happens ..... creak..........creak creak ....creak creak .......................................creak (you get the idea) and is there both at idle, in neutral, park or drive and held on the brakes or with the brakes not applied.

it's pretty quiet, but if a strain I can still hear it up to about 20mph, same sound, same volume, no apparent pattern, after about 20 mph the exhaust noise drowns it out.

in neutral or park, blipping the throttle does not change the frequency so don't think it rotational, car stationary so don't think its suspension, no brakes on and can't "feel" it so don't think its anything to do with them and of course, when I got to work, about 15 miles driving gingerly and was in a position where I could open the bonnet to take a look, it had stopped!

bit stumped really, anyone had this before?

hoping it's not sinister.

Cheers.

Front suspension bushes drove me nuts on my 4200.
Give all the rubber bushes a good spray with some wd40 take her for a drive then a good spray with white grease noise will go forever.
Repeat on a regular basis stops everything from perishing and no noise.
