Dental implants

Time has come for me to sort my teeth out.
Not proud, but have ended up with a mouth full of aging / failing amalgam fillings
at least two cracked and failing not to mention a number of crowns and a coupe of gaps to contend
with.

I don't want to end up with a smile like Simon Cowl but I do want to do something cosmetic whilst addressing the issues that have to be fixed.

So any dentist / implant specialists on here or anyone who has had similar work done who has any advice.

Insurance or private (out of pocket) funded?
For both, make sure you understand the materials being used for the posts and the teeth.
For own funding, ask around for prices and ask each what they recommend. Look for consistency in what each says is needed versus what you want and then prices.

The work is carried out by a dentist but involves a third party for the teeth and implants - doubt it will be all done in-house. Speak to a couple of 'Dental Labs' and ask them for advice and any recommendations for who to carry out the procedure. Dentistry is where biology meets metallurgy meets handicraft technique. Understand all three for the greatest satisfaction.

Thanks for the tips - this will be privately funded and I expect it will be costing in excess of the price of a half decent QP.
My budget is 20k which sounds madness when said out loud - but there is quite a lot involved.

My worry is I am a bit impetuous and need to stop myself just using the first “smile in a day merchant”

I think I would rather pay more to stay close to home for aftercare.

I bet there is a dentist lurking on here - come on show yourself !

I went to Devonshire House in Cambridge after lots of research as to who was the best, or very close to the best in the UK. I would not go outside of 2 hours travel door to door.

Not the cheapest, but I believe that the service and quality were right up there. I was pretty apprehensive of the procedure, however really surprised how comprehensive and easy it was compared to other dental procedures. Had Cyrus Nikkhah being an implant specialist.

If you want any more information on the practice or the procedure generally, just ask.

David.

You should always try to find the most professional dental treatment so that you don’t have to worry about anything when sitting on that giant dental chair for getting your issues fixed. Even I am so impressed with the tooth extraction and implant treatment that I got from the dentist Torrance.

You may desire and be in a position to afford implants but you may also be unsuitable for implants. The success of implants depends on many other factors such as general health, gum condition / gum & bone deterioration etc. More often than not the implant specialist will not undertake this surgery and subsequently advise you of alternatives. It’s like building a house, if the foundations are not one hundred percent then the building will subside. Additionally, there are no guarantees, no warranty ! . So step one, visit an implant specialist and find out if you are suitable for implants.

My Mum is going through the same thing , only one tooth though , I am amazed at how long it is taking. By the time it is all done and dusted it won’t be far off a year .
The peg / post was screwed in and stitched up last week , she has to go back in another 12 weeks for the tooth to be fitted , bless her , she is 80 years old too , hope I can put up with all that at her age .

I went to a well known London based clinic for assessment who did a 360 scan of teeth and bone structure.

Firstly they say myvteetha rr not as bad I I think they are so what to rescue more of what I have.

Secondly they mentioned “bone graft” which was enough to put me off - for now anyway.

Back to normal dentist to get some remedial work done.

Now, what to do with the 30k it would have cost me ;)

Can't really add much to this, but the little there is might help.
My father lived out in Turkey for a number of years, until the politics got a bit,
problematic, shall we say.
Whilst living out there, he had all of his teeth replaced with implants.
Or rather, all of his teeth, so far as I can recall.
Obviously the cost was attractive. I think he paid about half the
UK rate for someone top notch. 15k very approximately. (sterling)
And according to him the facilities were excellent, as were the staff.
I'm not too familiar with the Turkish health system. From memory
there seems to be two tiers. One that is heavily subsidised, for the
locals and is not up to UK standards. And the other, which is private
and has excellent staff, often much better equipment than the NHS,
across a variety of specialties. I'm not talking knives and forks.
I'm referring to MRI scanners etc The kit that really matters.
So, he went in to the dentists on one day, to have the extractions
done and implants inserted and went back on another day not long
after to have the top part of the implants all attached to the lower
parts which had been fitted in his first visit.
I think he found the process quite arduous. Possibly because of his
age. Early 70's at that time. And because of the amount of implants
he was having fitted.
Afterwards, I believe he was very happy with his new teeth and
experienced no after procedure complications. Its been five years
now, at least and I've never heard him complain of any issues.
Certainly his teeth looked amazingly good. Especially with his
permanent Mediterranean tan. They looked entirely natural.
The thing about my father is. He'd have to be falling down,
almost dead. Before he'd complain about physical pain etc
He served in the Royal Signals squadron which worked alongside
the SAS and saw action in various parts of the world. Very little
of which he ever talked about. Suffice to say, he's a tough SoB.
So when he said he found the part of the procedure where the
implants themselves were screwed (?) into the jaw bones quite
arduous, that made me think twice about ever having this done
and made me start to take much better care of my own teeth! ;)
But, this is very anecdotal obviously. Clearly, others might've had
a much better experience and a lot might depend on the amount
of implants you have done. My father is the kind of guy to say,
oh to h@ll with it, just do the lot, while you're in there. I suspect he
regretted that slightly gung-ho attitude :)

20-30k- eye watering!!
I just had a go at my wife for leaving dentistry to do medicine.

You can have your entire body reshaped for less than 10k!
