But just think how great you would feel about the personal contribution you had made to reducing global warming for a relatively modest additional annual cost (once you had deducted the cost of the ICE alternative), and how much less guilty you might feel when you then use the Maserati on high days and holidays ;)

I agree with this. Most of us on here will be quite high CO2 consumers so it's partially about feeling better about this and partially about the image it presents. Personally I've now got Solar PV and an ASHP at home to reduce my footprint. I also use my 3 cylinder Polo on a lot of local driving as it has embarrassing high MPG which I can brag about to my friends who vote green.

We had a 2 yr old fabia vrs. The dsg gearbox was awful and it broke down.. Not a brand I'll do again at least not with that box. Heinous thing.

Strange our Octavia had the DSG box and it was fantastic, super fast changes, next gear always ready when you needed it. Never had any issues in during the time we had it, would have another in an instant

I'm doing my bit for the planet by hanging on to my GTS!!!
If I buy an electric car, surely the environmental cost of building it, generating power for it and finally disposing of the battery/batteries is far more than my existing carbon footprint GTS which has already been built, fuel infrastructure already in and no nasty stuff to get rid of at the end of it's life. (Which will probably be further into the future than any current (no pun intended) electric car!!)

My pre-owned Zoe was 5 years old, so I have no guilt in that respect either.........particularly parked alongside my pre-owned 5 year old V8

Agree a EV for pootling about town makes great sence.

However if you are leasing the battery then you are paying for the replacement... or am I missing something?

Last time I checked the monthly lease was more than the fuel costs for me to do my commute.
You still see plenty of Priuses (Priuii?) pooling about at least, what, 10 years old? Still in use...

Yes, but do the batteries still provide power or are they just running on the petrol engines? I am led to believe that it is the latter with some Prius taxis but still kept going because car tax exempt.

To be honest, I have never really been convinced by the hybrid argument? Is there a significant real world saving in consumption that could not be achieved by a smaller modern ICE in the same or similar car? I have had friends with hybrid Lexi who have complained bitterly about the poor overall fuel consumption, ie never get anywhere near that quoted. Any my hire car for 4 days recently turned out to be a Toyota CHR......it did about mid-40s from its hybrid power over several hundred miles of mixed use. Would a similar sized, say, Auris petrol have not done about the same? So is the hybrid thing actually just hype and almost the worst of all worlds, eg you buy a new one and so have all the environmental cost of manufacture, and with the future battery disposal issues, but you are still burning fossil fuels at a not hugely dissimilar rate and also have all the maintenance costs of an ICE as well. Can’t quite get my head around that from an environmental or personal cost perspective......

The CRV has a tiny fuel tank Gloucester to Weymouth and back = a full tank, where as the MB C-class does it on a 1/4. OK the diesel has a much bigger tank but the honda had to be ragged to get any movement.
