Days gone by

I remember us driving through the Mersey tunnel in an ex-RAF Morris J2 minibus (we found the roundels when rubbing it down) and as a 10 year old having to wrap a cloth round a split top hose under the middle seat cover to get us out of the tunnel!

With wife and 4 kids in a s**t brown Vauxhall Viva from Hull to Glasgow and an engine mount let go on the A66. Limped into Penrith and a by bizarre stroke of luck found a garage with a spare on a Saturday afternoon! First lay-by up the A6, jack under the sump and new mount in place then off again. Those were the days!

104315I remember getting this every Saturday after swimming lessons. I'd read it, and then my dad would scan it, remembering his Eagle comics from the 50's.

The entire Walkley family (6) on holiday heading to Austria, Zodiac full to the brim. Father had the overdrive on when we were on the Mway. Forgot to turn off. Up gross glockner no probs but coming down began to get a bit tasty. Borg Warner = no engine braking= boiling brake fluid and some very hairy moments. I was 10, thought it was great. Father felt he nearly wiped us out.

Funny you should post that painting of the Chinese Lady by Vladimir Tretchikoff. I saw the original today, it’s owned by a London jeweller named Laurence Graff who owns a wine estate/hotel named Delaire Graff near me where it is on display. Beautiful place with stunning views for some wine tasting, a must if you are ever in the area.
And a superb jewellery shop to enjoy, too! The last time I was there, I tried on some ludicrously expensive rings. Rude not to…
