Hi All

Has anyone had any experience with a custom exhaust fabricator in Warsall called MIJ Exhaust. they are advertising on the big bad bay offering a custom system for much less than from the likes of Larini , Qucksilver or Tubi. Also has anyone tried the modified back boxes from Janen metalworks (AKA Searley71) also on ebay.
My understanding from reading past threads on the forum is that to unleash more power and throttle response you should replace the secondary cats and squish pipes but that this does not do much for the sound. Replacing the back boxes increases noise but does not effect power and throttle response. Plus what is the best thing to do with the resonator and x pipe, replace it of keep and if you replace it what does that do to power, throttle response and sound.

Any help very much appreciated.

Not heard or used them but I’d stay away from custom exhaust jobs as some are very poorly put together and not worth the hassle.

A proper one can be re sold when you change car to get some £££ back or maybe hold out for a decent branded used one.

If you replace the secondary cats and squish pipe it does a LOT for the sound! You're deleting a muffler effectively.

Take the centre silencer out and replace with an X or H pipe and you get more noise!

Sports back boxes and you get more still.

That's what I did anyway!

Thanks for the reply. Sound advise indeed I will bear that in mind.

Thanks for that may be worth going in stages until I get the right sound.

I have a pair of Jaren Metalworks back boxes...they are a good compromise iMO...
Standard boxes so they fit, no question. No drone. Not super loud. Not much difference atall from the driver's seat infact. Distinctly louder from outside the car. And he puts in the time to make them look like a new set ! Mine are fitted with an X-pipe.
If I could delete the cats easily, I would. If you have the euro spec axhaust...a primary cat delete is a good way to go too IMO...

Here’s what I went for, one pair of cats removed as well as squashed pipe.
Plus centre resonator replaced, back boxes standard.
Sounds great

I echo @Gp79 just buy pre fabricated items to avoid what is an absolute minefield

Larini sports cats are not much more expensive than a GOOD custom system (sure you can spend £700 quid like i did and the spend another £700 putting it right which ends up the same as larini)

Centre section try marios at autoshield x or h pipe is 280+VAT plus £10 delivery

Boxes either get gransport used boxes or the ones from jaren metal works.

I have documented my experience and if i could do it again i would go with what i said above as i learnt the lesson of poor quality fabrication the hard (or rather expensive) way.

Here is a 6 page thread detailing my build and the poor quality exhaust system i had made keeps rearing its head constantly finally 3 years after having it done I have fixed the mess that the fabricator created for my car https://www.sportsmaserati.com/inde...00-project-the-story-so-far-and-beyond.28073/

Thanks for that a really useful reply. Have you noticed any performance improvements?

Has anyone had any experience with a custom exhaust fabricator in Warsall called MIJ Exhaust.

bought 2 stainless boxes off them and a range of stainless mandrel bends to build the system on my 6R4, found the quality of the boxes and welds very good and been on motor for a couple of years and still all good

if money is no object use these guys, it will be the dogs bollox and a thing of beauty as well, never used them but well respected in the bespoke field and I have seen first hand many of their special build exhausts

My 4200 had an exhaust system made by MIJ on it when I bought it, quality is not great, and I certainly wouldn't go anywhere near them.

I will soon have the same setup as @TimR, having just sourced a pair of spare 4200 rear silencers and sending them over to Janen Metalworks for re-work. The finished product is really very impressive and they basically look like brand new silencers. Can’t wait to fit them in a few weeks time, and to hear what they sound like coupled with the Larini x-pipe I already have in place!

For the money, I think the combination of x-pipe and modified rear silencers looks like a great option, although I am tempted to replace the secondary cats and squish section!!

Will be taking some before/after photos and sound clips, so will post here.

I went with a Marios X pipe and Jaren modified back boxes , the sound is gorgeous , no drone at all , Jason does a fantastic job , as mentioned , of polishing them and fettling them to look as good if not better than new .56708
