Just looked on Autotrader and there are 681 Maserati for sale at this moment in time starting with a hideous QP for 7.5 K.
Never seen so many for sale.

I'm sure there is as there are over 900 Ferraris.
I think people are after cash in case the Brexit goes T1TS up Dean.

Not just Brexit although that doesn't help. The push down on V8s and other large capacity engine cars may be driven by a fear of what punitive measures will be brought in under a climate emergency agenda.

At the end of the day, that's what fuel duty achieves. There comes a tipping point where people choose not to drive, change their driving habits or opt for an alternative. Remember the impact of rising fuel prices in the early 00s?

Even today, with faster everyday cars than we have ever seen, the M25 is a more sedate place than it was 20 years ago although average speed camera technology and the like has it's part to play.

I just hope that whatever comes next is a better choice than diesel where governments were conned by vehicle manufacturers into promoting higher mpg cars which must be less polluting if you can travel further on the same amount of fuel, right?

Whilst greener alternatives are desirable, I hate to see serviceable vehicles junked under scrappage schemes when no account is had for the energy cost in producing a new vehicle.

Although an EV 4200 makes no sense to me, I like the idea of 'recycling' classic cars with new powertrains if they do not have an original engine with an emotional connection.

What’s our basis for comparison? How many Maseratis and Ferraris are normally listed for sale?

I wish someone had kept track of this on a weekly basis actually - it’s a very interesting stat!

And how many interesting, collectible, rare and possibly appreciating modern(ish) Masers are advertised for sale currently (e.g. Shamal, Ghibli Cup, 3200 AC, Spyder Anniversary, MC-V, etc.) None. Owners of these are happy to enjoy them and sit tight. And this is the club the 30 or so surviving RHD 2 seat Strads will be joining.

On the other hand, diesel Ghiblis sold by the thousand, so for the foreseeable future, for them the only way is down, in a flooded market. But the same could be said for the equivalent Audi, BMW, etc. And if I had to drive one of that ilk, I far rather be in the Maser. And probably will be if it all goes belly up after Oct 31st!

What I’m hearing through dealers, who are either buying or taking cars on SOR, is that the types of people with prestige cars (usually self employed business leaders)are looking to sell them to reinvest cash in case their business has needs in a post-Brexit land. In some cases this has already happened. As such it’s to be expected, really.

Not every prestige car owner is self employed, of course, but you only need to look at the bloodletting in the City to see that medium to high net worth jobs aren’t safe, and finding a new one not very easy. So perhaps there’s some belt tightening going on for the bad times...

Those that collect in general are waiting out the storm, not spending and holding what they have. For the seller, this means less buyers. For the finance guys, it means less activity so some keen rates. It’s a good time to buy if you’re brave enough!

Most higher end stuff has depressed in price as this is viewed as the best way to motivate a stagnant market. It means that my car has lost about 15k in value in a year which is a little more than I’d hoped but the circumstances are so crazy, it was impossible to predict. A perfect storm.

You see it most in the lease market where makers like JLR are so down they have to stop production. Folks are waiting, who can blame them?

I agree with Ewan on the 2 seater Stradale. It’s a car to hold for a few years now. As with almost all Maserati though, there are probably better cars to hold though. I see cars like the Aston Vanquish becoming super desirable as well as specials like the M3CS.

The 612 like the one Dicky has for sale and cars such as the 599 and 550m are probably going to become good buys too.

The Med Blu GS with 54k miles advertised on here at circa £17.5 is surely the current best bargain Maser. The cheapest lowest spec new Golf is now £31k, just to add context.

Trying to find that car. Do you have a link?

Dicky is probably best to comment - but have wandered around and attended the auctions at both FOS and Silverstone Classics- I couldn’t help thinking that the estimates had softened on last year and the realised prices were at the bottom range (or in the FOS didn’t even make reserve) - makes me wonder if we are starting to see the changes in the wholesale market feed through to retail?
