Couldn't agree more.

In many respects, in the same boat as Maserati V8's. Large engine cars, with high running costs... but I think they're pretty special. I'd go for an M6 or M5 touring for rarity.
If you have the funds to run these cars properly, they're terrific. I often have a look at what Munich Legends have in stock.
Another car in much the same vein is the SL55 AMG, albeit supercharged (friend has the F1 version).

I would go for a m6 v10, I like the coupe design. Its also not a bad car to have as just a second fun car if you don't want to put so many miles on your Maserati or other supercar but still want to drive something thats still special with performance, sound etc.

So hypothetical question. The guy @ Greenside Cars sent me this over as I said I was possibly looking at 612's which got me thinking.

Now this is a guy that has a small office, works on his own, doesn't prep his cars or do anything with them much if at all. Just buys them in and ships them out. Doesn't know much about cars, is not a car guy and just sees them as boxes to buy and sell to people he isn't so bothered about. After sales and warranty? No idea.

My thoughts. Would you spend £100k on this 599 or any cars of this value or more with a dealer like this?
You would need your head looking at to spend that with him given your experience and a main dealer car with a 2 year warranty and less miles can be had for the same.

I drove my cousins M6 recently and without wishing to upset anyone I thought it was rubbish. The engine is phenomenal if you wring it out as it fizzes and screams to the red line......but it wasn’t that fast unless really going for it, the car seemed very heavy with an awful gearbox and to my eyes the design hasn’t aged very well. The M5 has aged a little better to IMHO. Overall it had only one redeeming feature and that was the engine.

I agree. Was more a hypothetical question more around why would anyone buy from a deal like that at all. The TVR was a little different as a rare low cost car so more like buying private. Also he was miles away so I was unlikely to go back with any little niggles. There are main dealers and decent specialists deals with full facilities and after sales for the same money so why anyone go to someone like Greenside?

I would agree with most of this as well. At 9/10ths and 10/10ths these cars are epic. Anything less (most of the time!) and they make far less sense. I loved my E60 M5 V10 and have teetered with getting an M6 V10 but never quite convinced myself it was a good idea. I think I would be happier in an MX5 BBR or something.

Now you are talking. Supercharged or turbo!

Just great cars and the like you will not see again......but.....was reading that it's a brave person that buys one these days and you need very deep pockets. Great way to lose money though.

I think I'm almost decided I'm going to have the Alfa GT outgoing and to be swapped/replaced with a supercharged R53 Mini Cooper S in return.
You will love it and possibly the most fun you can have with your clothes on given how much they cost. The defining thing for me was the hydraulic steering and the ludicrous speed you can carry through a corner. I used to laugh out loud at the madness of it all. I would recommend you ditch the run flats if they haven’t already been replaced and book it into somewhere to fit a reduced supercharger pulley. The extra torque is really useful and transforms the car for peanuts.

This. I looked at one to upgrade my 630 and it sounded great, was fast in a straight but aside from that, the bork factor would ruin any drive knowing it could go pop. The c63 seems like a far better bargain imo, can pick up 2012 coupes for 19k with reasonable miles.

Dean,

Have you driven one? I’d be up for a weekend swap, if it meant I got to play with a GT V6....

It has the Q2 diff on and drives pretty good. Sounds lovely even with stock exhaust. Much better for refurbed alloys in dark grey with all new P4's one.

I’m not convinced I want to do a long term swap as I think the Mini is potentially a keeper.

However, genuine offer - could be a fun weekend...
