Cost of living during Lockdown

I am amazed at how little we have spent (wasted) so far during lockdown.

Not because we are deliberately trying to make saving but simply because we can’t go out and do stuff.

From not visiting a Costa twice a day (x two of us) though to not going to the pub twice a week not to mention the lack of restaurants / theatres and cinema visits.

And then there is the petrol for the GTS and the classic Mustang neither of which are being used.

Of course we are paying more for some food items but over all this is saving us a fortune.

Would much rather be able to be spending though !

Agree with both of you, saving a lot on not eating out, drinking my own wine at 1/3 the restaurant price and fuel etc but have bought a Naim streamer and new Kef Reference speakers plus an old SL for the summer! Too much screen time.....

Not much difference for me. Never go to Costa twice a day or the pub twice a week. Also at the moment my working days, weeks or personal life hasn't changed. Same as it was.

I did just buy two garages though but that is a bit of a one off.

I wonder how much emmisions have been reduced globally by?

I also wonder how many fewer accidents of any kind?

I've bought a 22U server rack to rack and test a load of SPARC and POWER servers I've been meaning to shift but had no time. £300 should get me £2k back, 24TB SAN in there.....

My daughter wants a Daschund.....

I agree. I am saving a fair chunk, but would rather be spending it. I’ve ordered my new welder though, so that should keep things interesting.

I have gone for the clarke 150te. Does both gas and gas less. And yes, the 500 needs it!

I re-welding the doors on my erstwhile Cadillac Fleetwood, but now as I have an ICD in my chest, I am not allowed to arc-weld, go on dodgems, stand over a running car engine or go through the security arch at airports....

I was a ***** welder anyway....

Lost on me Loz/Zep. Any advice on a good welder to start learning and doing some basic stuff when required?

I've done some research but so many options and so much partially conflicting advice.

The myriad of options is mind boggling. MIG, TIG, Stick, gas, gasless etc. It is one of my least knowledgeable subject so far.

May sound stupid , but what are you expecting to weld ...............cars body panels etc would you need to weld alluminium , would you want to cut metal with it

I have decided to go for MIG first. The one I have gone for does both gas and gas less, but I am going to learn try with gas. Stick is easier but not as versatile and TIG takes a lot of learning as I understand it.

Correct tig is really for bench work , a lot more precision required hence prettier welds , ordinary car panel and slight heavy duty work mig and gas is probably the way to go, and is used by most garage workshops nowdays , but it is handy to have a plasma cutter aswell

We had a plasma when we restored my friends VW camper. Really useful!

I'm struggling to find shite to buy. Whilst we're in the rental space is at a premium, no room to buy pointless stuff I'll only ever use once.

No pubs or restaurants visited means a few hundred quid this month will stay in the bank. Working from home means no fuel in either car.

Perhaps Covid-19 is a cunning plan by the governments to make people get some savings behind them!
The conspiracy theorists didn't think of that one did they?
