Confirmed covid 19 and recovery

Glad to hear you are on the mend mate. We were all tested for it in Feb when we got back from Italy and I wouldn’t say the nasal swab or throat swab were bad at all. The throat was probably worse as it kicked in the gag reflex.

I do have a few questions

1) at what point did you call 111 or 999 to take you into hospital? Did you have a Sp02 monitor at home to check sat levels?

2) how bad did the breathing get and were you put on oxygen via a mask?

3) you mention pneumonia, are you still suffering f from the effects and will there be any long lasting effects of the tissue damage caused to your lungs?

cant be that battery is a Bosch and only a year old and I travelled 600 miles in her just a couple weeks before
Still could be a battery though. New stuff can be faulty or can develop permanent faults it never fully recovers from. I remember reading some good stuff from Zep that detailed this possibility somewhere on here.

I will check the battery over once I get out of here just to confirm.

Id take a battery fix as if it’s more serious HTF do you get a car stuck in 1st and facing rearward out of a garage lol
LOL....we've all don't funny things I'm sure

I got my XC90 stuck on my scissor lift last year. It has to go up a fair bit to go down and I was nearly touching the garage door opener. Had to temporarily remove the garage door opener boom so I could go up to go down......stupid design and my ownly fault with it.

You still wonder sometimes. Temporarily misplacing tools, my glasses and all sorts is my current favourite trick!

1) Yes the wife is a sister in the community so she has a lot of gear including SATS monitor. We rang 111 on Saturday and Sunday.
GP said each time I’m coping at home, have a nurse on hand so let’s ride out out There.

On Tuesday around 11pm I was in a bad way, wife phoned 111 and insisted on an ambulance, turned up and in I went around midnight

2) I have been breathing via mask since the minute I came in. My sats were as low as 86%. I ended up on 60% oxygen, just today they wended me down to 35%. That maintains my sats around 95-98%.
However I still have serious issues with attempting anything physical. I end up gasping for air.

3) The pneumonia is still very much with me, I have significant bilateral pneumonia, so it’s in both lungs.
Things are starting to improve. Once I can maintain sats without oxygen I’ll be discharged.
however I then have a 6 month recovery period from the pneumonia unfortunately

You are one of the few forum members I have met. Hats off for your openness and honesty. You are in the right place, well it would be better if Cleveland was still North Yorks but that’s another story!

I really hope those doubters, haters, trolls and generally belligerent idiots from the “Are you worried yet?” thread now finally realize that this disease is like playing Russian roulette. Some get it with mild symptoms but some get serious complications and need hospital treatment and even worse ventilation. Ryan doc is living proof that a healthy young man (40 which is way younger than most of the frequent posters with a chip on their shoulder in the aforementioned thread) can become infected via community spread and then suffer serious bad health from it...

Ryan mate I wish you a full and speedy recovery and if you or your family need anything I can help with please PM me...

Phil I get it you hate him, think he is a buffoon , a ****, who has made many mistakes but really what you post now is just becoming boring. The government after a really **** start has actually done very well to control things and i for one am proud of things like NHS Nightingale and the fact that 450,000 citizens have registered to volunteer as key workers...I know you are not a citizen any more and it is easy to throw comparisons from over the channel but really now is not a time for politics...

Let's leave the politics out of this thread..there's plenty others.

Ryan, wish you all the very best. It sounds like your on the steady road to recovery. But sounds terrible going from fit and healthy to current state. I hope things improve faster than you think.

As for your car. Did you try and jump start it? Otherwise, I would just change the battery. I drove for half an hour, then the battery randomly died and I couldn't restart.

Amen Phil. Terrible to hear such a good guy get ill with this. Bet it was his spirit, previous health and informed and supportive family that helped get him through.

Ryan, you mentioned oxygen was provided to you. I’m intrigued to know whether you were given any drugs and if so what?
Did they mention you have an immunity to it now that you’ve been through the experience.....
I’ve heard reports of plasma from recovered being used for others.

Well folks

I’m 12 days in, confirmed covid 19. Have been in hospital since Tuesday.

Today is the perkiest I’ve been but I’m still a lifetime away from being back to normal.
I have significant bilateral pneumonia and so have a very long recovery ahead of me.

Not interested in sympathy, I’m getting overloaded with that lol

Happy to answer any questions on the whole experience though.

I will say it is a pretty terrifying thing at the more serious level. Never in a million years did I expect I’d get hit with it.

As an aside before I came in I had some GTS issues, so she’s sat off the battery just now, fingers crossed when I’m back home she starts up.

Good health to all

I respect your matter of fact approach. I'm glad you're near through it and your stoical approach.

Good drills.

Thanks Ryan, you’ve been incredibly helpful setting up this thread. My husband is pretty ill with it at home and I’m in the tricky situation of deciding whether hospitalisation is required. He has the high fever and cough, but not breathing difficulties. I don’t know if that situation will change rapidly. I’ve been advised to get him to hospital if his fever has remained for a week. Which is a 2 days off and I’m not worried about calling 999, it’s whether I will get him to agree to leave the house! Like Saigon said at #44, it’s the problem of people holding on at home and then it’s too late.
Glad to hear you have it all under control now and fixing the car will be a nice distraction when you get out.

Quite a shocking read on reality...

Good on you for sharing and wishing you (and others) a speedy recovery

Keep positive and it shouldn’t be too long before you turn the key and hear the V8 roar....after a battery change that is-sounds like what it needs!
