Wife and two boys 7 and 4. For the first 6 days I was still all over the house but being careful, after that I was In bed and we restricted the boys to seeing me from the door.
The wife was in our bed until the weekend.
Luckily non are showing any symptoms yet which seems a bit of a miracle

Testing is still difficult, they won’t be and I only did because I came into hospital. The swab is painful, think of sticking something so far up your nostril till it touches your brain, it’s that bad.

As for visiting, not happening. This hospital and I’m sure all of them are on complete lockdown. Even if you aren’t in here for covid all visiting is stopped with the exception of parents of children.
There is plastic sheeting covering doors, corridors etc. It really is like something from a film
Wow thanks for sharing. Glad the family's good. Sounds brutal inside, but I guess for the best. Sounds like things have changed fast in under a week, mum in law was in Hosp left Friday, non covid but v High risk patient with blood cancer, put on a ward with 4 others, v little protection...
anyway all the best for you an yours, sound like a strong lad mentally & physically you'll be all good mate

Thanks Dave but I’m confident this isn’t the battery. This needs serious car medical attention.
Thinking about you and yours, God bless. You seem to have a very positive mind set, that is also a bonus when things go wrong (to put it mildly). At what stage did you realise that you really needed hospital admission. Were you admitted to hospital for treatment without any hassle, I am positive a lot of people are wondering just how long should I hang in there, Oops, too late. No one wants to put an unnecessary burden on the NHS, but there are no real guidelines. Had you gone into hospital earlier (or later) would it have made any difference to you.

Ok mate. But seriously, if you/or your family need anything else at all. Just shout. (Apart from New bathrooms/kitchens) etc. Just shout.

Scaf if you can get the thing working it’s all yours lol.

Right now when I try to start her I hear a buzzing, everyone goes scatty but no mechanical sound of starter motor.
you don’t hear the priming noise or whatever you call it for that first 10 seconds.

Then after attempting to start if I take the key out the Rev counter every few minutes the needle flickers at a really quick frequency covering about 5 MM if that makes sense. That only stops when I disconnect the battery.

When I reconnect the battery everything seems normal until I attempt to start her again
It’s already been said - next move has to be a new battery.
My GTS went wonky just after Christmas and it turned out to be a hub sensor, then I was told I needed front bushes, then I decided to get some other stuff done then I wrote a very large cheque - still she is lovely

Sorry to be reading this and best wishes to you and your family. Keep the mind strong and the body will follow.

Keep busy and occupied to take your mind off thinking about things. Hopefully you are through the worst and getting better now.

Would be good to get a multimeter on that battery to measure the voltage before, during and after starting.

To be honest it sounds a bit like when my car dropped a cell in the battery. Every thing pointed to starter motor. Car turned over fine. Just wouldn’t fire up. New battery. Vroom.

Well folks

I’m 12 days in, confirmed covid 19. Have been in hospital since Tuesday.

Today is the perkiest I’ve been but I’m still a lifetime away from being back to normal.
I have significant bilateral pneumonia and so have a very long recovery ahead of me.

Not interested in sympathy, I’m getting overloaded with that lol

Happy to answer any questions on the whole experience though.

I will say it is a pretty terrifying thing at the more serious level. Never in a million years did I expect I’d get hit with it.

As an aside before I came in I had some GTS issues, so she’s sat off the battery just now, fingers crossed when I’m back home she starts up.

Good health to all
It sounds totally horrific what you've been through. But keep the faith, stay positive and I am sure you will come out of this nightmare an even stronger person. I wish you all the very best for a speedy recovery!

Incidentally what hospital did you go into?

cant be that battery is a Bosch and only a year old and I travelled 600 miles in her just a couple weeks before

Try getting it tested. I’d be with you until last year. I changed the battery in my M3 and after a month or so it was back to not starting. I spent weeks trying to find a battery drain or other fault. Eventually I got the battery tested and turns out it was faulty.

As the others have said I'm sorry to be reading this and fingers crossed.
Your Car you may have to carefully put a trolley jack under the gearbox and pull her out backwards.
