Clogged discs.

So been prepping for Tuscany and noticed the discs look a bit clogged up. Is this something I need to worry about, or is it something that sorts itself out? Is it worth going round them with a drill bit to unclog them all? Some are worse than others, rears less so.
Thoughts?
Cheers Ian.

Mine were the same so I had them cleaned out at the last service, I assume they ran a drill bit though.

My MOT tester kindly blasted mine out with compressed air when up on the lift. Quick and easy, no need to drill them clear!

I hope you are all meaning that you are using a drill bit between the fingers to 'drill' the dust out. I don't want people to think that you actually take a power drill to the discs.
Compressed air is best but will make a mess and should you have asbestos containing material in your brakes, best you mask up and ventilate!

Cordless drill and steady away as there will be rust as well as dust.
You can see clearly in the picture the rust.
They need doing on a regular basis to keep looking good and let the gases escape.

Asbestos was banned in brake linings in 1999 so it’s unlikely to be these but masking up is a prudent as it’s not pleasant stuff.

Spot on, that's what I did with mine last year.

Out of interest, I have been trying to find out if there is a rotor refurbishment process that does more than skim discs...
Do people vapour blast or use a media blasting or chemical cleaning system prior to a skim at all...? Vented rotors get quite bad internally. Can this be cleaned and the march of decay halted ? Looking at putting part used rotors in storage as a back-up if this can be achieved...

Why??? The forum discs are c £150 for front or rear.

The discs are only hardened on the first 2mm so skimmed ones will be old and will wear very quickly.

I was under the impression the 4.7 Sport GTS front discs were considerably more than that :oops:

I’m eagerly awaiting the arrival of the forum discs but understand this will now likely be next year sometime

I use little eyeliner brush with disc cleaner (bit like below image) I like the idea of air cleaning - time to buy one...
