It is disappointing when magazines seek ill informed opinions which then go out to thousands of readers. The 4200 electrics are rarely ever a problem, the F1 pump either. You’d also do well to find a good one for £18k and £10k examples should be very careful purchases.

I see that as a decent article; electrical issues apply to most cars of a certain age.
Nice to think he is right about future values.

So you will not find a good one for 18k ? There was a time all the good ones were that price. Surely an early example at 18k is worth a look and an early one at 12k would be the ropy one. Are we saying these days you need over 20k for a decent 4200. When did that change. QP it is then.....best value Maserati on the market and theyare still dropping money.

I didn’t say you couldn’t, I just said you’d do well to find a good one for £18k. I have a good one for sale and it cost me more than that before I then serviced it and prepared it.

Key is Andy a 'good one'.

Lots if high miles, poor history, etc for under £18k and lower.

Recall my (at the time) high miles 4200 but with full history going for 13k... you will be luck to find one now with that provenance for the same money.

With respect your car has an exceptionally low mileage of only 24,000. Based on the asking price of that one I suggest £18k is about right for a good low mileage (c.50k miles) example, especially if buying privately.

I agree, it would be the correct price but it would still be very hard indeed to find one for sale privately.

The way I look at it..
You can buy a car with complete service history and and a healthy PPI. Nothing should stop you doing your best to eliminate potential problems.. None of it guarantees it isnt going to throw a wobble soon after you get behind the wheel !

Still think a QP is a better buy.....You can get a newer car for your money. Either way It's mad that you buy a Maserati 3200/4200/QP for this sort of money. Under 20k or early 20's it so much car.

Still a lot of money Andy... and few are willing to sink that into a 10-20 year old car that will cost £2-4 k pa to maintain... esp when you can get a standard car for that new or on a PCP.
