My favourite BMW is the E9. There were some nice ones at NEC. All around 150k though. ‘Boat’ and ‘sailed’ are the words for me though.
Pity I didn’t have 4K when I was 13 when I took this pic…..

My father had 2 E3 saloons and I drove quite a few miles in both the first a 2800 and the second a 3.0 quick cars back in the late 70's early 80's.
A pillar less Coupe though really is a piece of beauty.
My Mum had a 280SL Pagoda around 72 if I remember again another beautiful car.

This beauty was also at the NEC, I was very drawn to it but the £145k price tag was an eye opener, and looking very closely at it some of the exterior trim it looked like it still needed work...

Having daydreamed my way round the NEC for two days I'm now in the same boat as Zagatos, I'm looking at my three classics and trying to decide what to do. While the Biturbo has been away I 'accidentally' bought another Mk2 Mini Cooper which is filling the Biturbo's place in my garage (alongside my Mk2 Cooper S), so when it comes back from Migliore it will have to live on the drive, not an ideal situation at all. As for what I'd buy if I sold the Maser and Cooper, I'm drawn towards Lancia Betas Montecarlos and Fulvias, Maser 4200s and QPVs and not for the first time Series 1 Jag XJs and early XJ-Ss. My head is spinning quite a bit!

Too many tempting cars to buy, not enough time! (or space, or cash….)

Got hit by a Land Rover Discovery whilst out walking which broke both my arms back in July, it has taken sometime to get mobility back and still don't have enough strength in right arm to use a LHD gearbox or in either to steer a car without power steering.
I’m so sorry to hear this, especially as from what I remember two of your cars are LHD. If there’s any help I can provide let me know.

Tell me about it, it gets worse - I'm also looking at Fiat 130 Coupes, early '70s BMW saloons, Alfa Spiders, 105 series Coupes and Alfetta GTVs, '420 shape' Daimler Sovereigns, Rover P5B Coupes (had two, should have kept them,) Series 2 Lotus Europas and Elan +2s, Bentley T1s and RR Silver Shadows, Jensen Interceptors, '60s and early '70s Mustangs, Cameros and Firebirds (anything bigger won't fit my garage), GT40 replicas etc, etc!

The prices for cars for sale at the NEC both by dealers and the auction were crazy. Boat sailed for me buying anything additional to the fleet.

NEC prices were bonkers and a bit against the trend of the auctions from what I can deduce.

This sort of sums me up

An Airbus 380 is on its way across the Atlantic. It flies consistently at 800 km/h at 30,000 feet, when suddenly an Eurofighter with a Tempo Mach 2 appears.
The pilot of the fighter jet slows down, flies alongside the Airbus and greets the pilot of the passenger plane by radio: "Airbus, boring flight isn’t it? Now have a look here!"
He rolls his jet on its back, accelerates, breaks through the sound barrier, rises rapidly to a dizzying height, and then swoops down almost to sea level in a breathtaking dive. He loops back next to the Airbus and asks: "Well, how was that?"
The Airbus pilot answers: "Very impressive, but watch this!"
The jet pilot watches the Airbus, but nothing happens. It continues to fly straight, at the same speed. After 15 minutes, the Airbus pilot radios, "Well, how was that?
Confused, the jet pilot asks, "What did you do?"
The Airbus pilot laughs and says: "I got up, stretched my legs, walked to the back of the aircraft to use the washroom, then got a cup of coffee and a chocolate fudge pastry."
The moral of the story is: When you’re young, speed and adrenaline seems to be great. But as you get older and wiser, you learn that comfort and peace are more important.
This is called S.O.S.: Slower, Older and Smarter.

The cars being considered are

BMW E9 3.0CSi, or with a push a CSL

or alternatively a Pagoda SL, not overly worried about which engine

The shop which restored my 928 GTS 5-spd kind of specialises in Pagodas. He did three over the 2yrs that the Porsche was with him. If you decide to go down that route, please avoid the 230. It's a weezy lump in a heavy car. Dynamically the Mercedes is not a patch on the E9 to start with anyway, but anything less than the full fat 280SL in fine fettle would be a disappointment. I would recommend the E9 anyway - the BMW is a next generation car so to speak compared to the Mercedes...
