OK so drove the car home yesterday and am pleased with car all things considered.
Had a couple of issues with the car stalling when pulling away which Rockits had already told me about.
Of more concern to me is the fact that I cant engage reverse-whatever I try its not happening.
The lever seems floppy as if there is no feel when moving back and forth.
Any advice[apart from you should'nt have bought the car!]would be much appreciated.
Regards,Gary.

The reverse lever is just a switch, it's not a mechanical item. So the contacts of the switch may require cleaning or the replacing. You could be lucky with an easy fix.

The leaver is know weak part.

It may have broken inside; there is a upgraded Hills Engineered replacement part available.

You may be able to click the micro switch under the leaver to get R... and I assuming you have the break peddle pressed and door/bonnet closed, as this will stop any gears being applied.

Unless it has had a clutch since that first one in 2006 after 8k miles I'd suspect it could be clutched related. If it has done 50k miles on that replacement clutch it has done well. I'd suggest getting it into a specialist to plug in to see if they can see any issues with the clutch. The stalling and engagement issues can be PIS adjustment. Or it might need a replacement clutch, bearing etc. if on its way out.

Where you based?

I don't recall it having issues engaging reverse when I had it. Just an occasional stall when I pulled away a couple of times. I wasn't sure if that was driver error though! I didn't drive it much or have it long but I would have noticed not being able to engage reverse as had it in the garage and would have had to reverse out several times.

I am in Milton Keynes.

I have been given the number of a guy who does all the mechanical work for Romans in ST Albans.
I was going to give him a shout but if anybody can recommend someone local-ish that would be great.
I had already resigned myself to replacing the clutch.

You are not a zillion miles away from McGrath's in Kimpton

Stalling issue was worse after a run and the car was hot.
It didnt happen until closer to home after a 40 mile drive.
Went to a hand car wash where I had to drive up a bit of a ramp and she wasnt happy at all...
