Christmas Trees, Windows, accelerometers

There we were, in Norfolk, wondering why we were.
Moved into steady slow traffic.
We've all experienced it, well you likely will.
Christmas tree lights on the dash:
MSP Fail
ASR Fail
Suspension Fail.
ABS Fail
Park brake fail

'Take to dealer'
Warning sounds.

I'd had one before: the dreaded accelerometers in a hub, £800 + fitting, so wondered which one this time.

However, not sooooooooo.

A quick call to Matt: How old is your battery; if it's older than 2 years change it.

Well, there had been hints and tips before setting out on the three and a half hour journey from the Cotswolds, but surely a steady whoosh across country should have topped her up.
Switched her off, sat weeping for a few minutes.
Switched her on. Foot on the footbrake, pulled handbrake on and off, and Lo! and Behold! all clear. All functioning.

Another three and half hour return home to the Cotswolds, surely she's fine. CTEK Charge shoed 'OK', then fully charged within the hour, but then did its usual check, saw a voltage drop, and went into recondition. four hours
Battery 2 years and half years old. The Bosch recommended one. Five year warrantee
Next day, 7 mile trip, no issue. Short 10 minute rest, out into slow traffic, and yawp, yawp, light up, Take to Dealer.
Same procedure cleared the errors
Back on charge: another four hours. Into recondition again.

Bu%%er it. Took her back to the battery vendor. Checked. Within Spec.
Bu%%er it. Replace the s0ddin thing, in spec or not. I'd rather pay £180 than erroneously have the fratch of down to Southampton, diagnose and and probably replace an OK hub.

Perfect. 5 days now, not missed a beat.
Obviously battery capacity marginal.
So warrantee, battery check, just disregard.

The warning signs: she starts shutting down non-essential functions:
First: Window detente starts playing up.
Reversing mirror doesn't dip
NIT slow to boot up
Steering wheel 'comfort raise' stops.

She's now bright as a button.
Really on her toes.

Just a reminder, most of us know, and I should have realised, but even if she starts up reasonably healthily, a battery that is having difficulty taking charge can really mess up your girl.

Another wierd battery issue (I hope) - an inability to select gears but auto works fine. Happened when at Goodwood so had a couple of short trips and and some traffic and when we came to leave it wouldn't select 2nd gear but worked OK in auto. After a bit of a run the gearbox started working fine; had the same problem the following morning which again cleared itself and it's not done it since. I've got a new Bosch to put on so hopefully that will be the end of it.
