Child Car Seats in the back…

I’ve been trying to find a suitable car seat for my 2 year old to go in the back of the gransport.

I did manage to fit one belt seat in but the base was too large for the scalloped area of the rear seat and it didn’t seem very stable.

No isofix in the back….

Has anyone had any luck?

The advice now is to be rear facing until 4 years old.

I went to a car seat shop today and we got close, a couple of good seats that fit in the recess and have a front support but the seat belt socket and seatbelt did not fit into them well, the seat belt socket is too long….

Arghhh.

I was hoping they would be a solution somewhere.

There was a nice front facing one but even the seatbelt buckle fouled that one a bit and my wife is holding onto the advice that it must face backwards as best practice.

Any ideas? Is there a Maserati seat? I have once seen cushion things stuffed into the scalloped bit….

When my kid was still in a car seat, I simply filled out the dip with some towels! With the seat mounted properly, there was very little movement (other than what you'd expect from a belt mounted seat), despite me pulling it in various directions.

Rightly or wrongly, the way I looked at it, the seat sitting straight rather than at an angle was more of a comfort thing than a safety thing...


Edit to add, I'm sure someone will be along to say there are official Maserati kid seats and boosters, but personally, I wouldn't be sticking my kid in a 20 year old used car seat!
There was actually an optional pad for the 4200 that fit into the seat bucket, which from what I could tell, was simply a piece of trimmed foam. My towels simply did that too As a bonus, if the kid was ill in the seat... plenty of towels to protect the leather

Got this sorted today. Fitted at a place called Car Seat Ninja near Bishops Stortford. I’ve turned the front airbag off etc. The seat has a leg support at the front and two extra lashings that go beneath the seat rail.

My son seems to be car mad already at just over 2 so it’ll be nice to go to be able to take him to a cars and coffee to walk around the other cars etc. if my wife does come she will be relegated to the back!

The seat fitted in the back but the belt buckle was deemed too long/high so have gone for the front solution.

I would be tempered to get some hi density foam (like the inside of a tool box or camera case and sit it to fit the bucket of the seat. Then you will have more choice

Its 15 years ago now since I was putting the kids in child seats in the back. I just filled the dip with a few scatter cushions from the lounge.
I also bought off a forum member a custom made rear seat protector, and then sold it on to another member with young kids when mine became less messy!!

Most of the solutions involve either filling the seat base dip with towels or not slip rubber or a chunk of dense foam. There was a company that made seat base bolsters to level out the seat base like the one below.



Im sure a trimmer could replicate it for you and cover in a suitable fabric.
