2 armed police officers in Chi yesterday. Didn't seem to be anything happening that required their presence. They seemed to be fairly chilled and just strolling around, but everyone was doing double-takes as this is something really unusual here.
Is it possible that that it was to do with this new rule for Covid? surely seems a bit threatening, but couldn't see why else they were there.

Not sure they would plan on shooting folk straightaway. And some of it I'm sure is for show. But it is a concern. What do they know that we don't/should know.?

Most likely that someone is off sick and the armed response team is the only staff they’ve got left. Wouldn’t worry about it unless they’ve got to Greggs first and bought all the cakes.

When you say 'armed' do you mean strolling around wearing sidearms or patrolling with H&K MP5s?

Here in Gloucestershire, the 'area car' is also the ARV (armed response vehicle), so it is very common to see police with sidearms buying crisps in our little Tesco Metro.

Definitely nothing to do with COVID-19; why on earth would it be? Not everything is some sort of drama/conspiracy.

They were headed that way and it was nearly lunch time. Bet they don't have to wait in line!

So a proper armed patrol then. Will be a training exercise, increased vigilance due to a specific activity (such as a visit by a minor royal) or a response to a specific incident, like this one in April: https://www.portsmouth.co.uk/news/c...led-chichester-city-centre-last-night-2548345

No English police force would ever be authorised to enforce virus rules with assault weapons (at time of writing).
In the US, of course, civilians try to overturn virus rules with AR15s and suchlike; which is considered absolutely fine, so long as they are white.

It could have been that but I would be impressed as it’s over in Hampshire at the workshop. Ashley took it to alignment and described it as ‘asbo’

Hilarious!

I have the “Nextdoor“ ap on my phone and pretty much every post on there falls into one of the categories on this bingo sheet. Live in a little village in the middle of nowhere and everything and anything that happens gets a mention!
Curious. There is no idiot up the road with his noisy exhaust on the bingo list...

The pointless and feverish posts like "was that a helicopter?" and "there's been an accident - I hope they are ok!" are the most maddening to me. Plus the, 'I would rather ask 4,000 strangers than Google' ones.

But it is the illiteracy I cant stand. This is the one that nearly killed me stone dead:
