Am I ok to do a direct swap of the battery myself? Or does it then need to be coded to the car etc? I suppose I'd probably need the error codes read and cleared regardless?
If you have a multimeter see what voltage is in the battery.Ok. First port of call is a battery change then. Still keen to get any further thoughts anyone else might think are pertinent. Again, your help is much appreciated Zep, Conaero and Phil.
I do with anything but a Yuasa, we see multiple failures.I think my battery is a Yuasa. Conaero, do you suggest changing the battery as first port of call?
Zep, I agree that things aren't made the way they used to be! haha
Interesting, I think I'll steer clear on my replacement then. With respect to the correct alternatives, I saw this link to an Exide, https://www.tayna.co.uk/car-batteries/exide/ea1000/ can you advise as to which Varta is the correct one? I'll then take a look and get something ordered.
Common reason we see for premature battery failure is constant Ctek trickle charge connection.
The battery thus seems reliant on a constant 12v supply and losses it’s ability to function correctly.
My advise is to yes use a trickle charger but sparingly. Flick it on the day before you need it if laid up for more than 1 week during winter or 10-14 days during warmer times.
Having simlar issues with mine, check transmission, Park off, MSP etc - battery reset works for 100 or so miles then occurs again. Dealer said they changed the battery but it is onl 88Ah and 680A wondering if it is up to the job? Going to try MAF clean alsoIt’s your battery. I take it you get the Park Off error too?
Winter + little use = voltage drop and systems don’t have enough power to complete properly.
Tanya batteries, Exide Premium 100amp = £89.

Does a battery go flat over time even on the bench off the car, nothing connected?
So how does a battery get charged in the first place?Yes, batteries self discharge due to the internal resistance. If you are storing a battery, charge it periodically as if the charge drops too low, it will damage it.
So how does a battery get charged in the first place?
Eb
Using a battery charger.
But a battery is goosed if it drops below certain voltage? But it's ok if it has never had any charge in the first place?
