Ceramic Coating

It's not something I've used in the past, but it seems to be coming quite popular.

I would be interested please in all thoughts, good & bad, about the process.

I can google the 'basics' but I was hoping for some honest feedback.

Thanks.

Do you mean a} on the painted surfaces of the car or b) as a heat resistant treatment to the exhaust headers.
If a) yes good, absolutely do it, making sure the paint surface is suitably prepared as the ceramic will lock in any imperfections. The resulting shine is glorious.
I recorded a MegaFactories episode on the Ferrari 599. In it they showed Maserati's in the Ferrari paint shop production line and showed where a ceramic final coat was applied.
So it must be good stuff.
If you mean b), there are performance benefits in keeping the heat out of the engine bay and this is a good method I plan to adopt in the future.

I've had it done on both GC's. The 1st one was an early version by Ceramic Pro, and the 2nd was dealer done - Gtechniq. The Gtechniq lasted longer and then requires a top up every 12 months or so. The coating does make a difference, I found it easier to wash etc, but the dealer prep wasn't the best, so any paint imperfections almost got sealed in. When this last coat ceases to work as well as I wish I'm going to to have the local detailer do it using a graphene coating. The advantage of that is you can self heal swirl marks or light scratches with a hair dryer. In short I'd recommend having it done, but invest in a full paint detail first.

I was gifted some “Williams” ceramic, didn’t want to go near my cars but washed and clay barred my wife’s Corsa and have that a coat and have been really impressed, especially as I was so slap dash.
It’s the easiest car to clean and care for by far and it’s been 18months.

So I am going to have my XJ done, the Strad has PPF.

Gtechniq are absolutely top notch on the interior as well. Their leather and vinyl products are fabulous - leave a beautiful matt finish and astounding protection.

More praise for Gtechniq here.
I had C1 & Exo on my 911.

they offer a minefield of products, some are for the hobbyists- some (like the above) are pro only. Getting it wrong could be disastrous.

paint prep is everything (but I’m sure you know that)

I think I'll try this Touch-On stuff first and take it from there. Many thanks for the replies.

There is a new gtechniq in wash (ceramic gwash) version too now. I will be trying that on the daily. 20ml per 10L. Costs £20 so 25 washes approx (using the 10l of cold water) is 0.80p a wash plus any delivery etc.
