I've not tried, but I do have one that doesn't release cleanly when the button is pressed, and the padding on both is a bit flat; I might be tempted to have a shufty sometime.
 
Ive seen the end locating anchor broken in the lid that the spring pin sits into.
I'm hoping that a complete rip out of console is not required to gain access for such a simple flap mechanism
 
I also have one half that doesn't release/open. I even asked my independent specialists, and even they didn't have a solution.
Naively, I hoped it was just a little spring somewhere
 
The spring is visible at back.
The plastic post is broken in lid at back that it would sit into.
I can fashion something but my problem is how to remove the lid
