Everyone fits in the wide body version....

What engine are you after?
Any. I’m not bothered about the power, as long as it’ll get me to office or pub on a sunny day. For me it’s more about the condition, colour and general spec, rather than bhp.

Depends how old you go, K series is nice as is Ford Duratec, Sigma has a bit of a flat spot apparently but I haven’t noticed it on the one I’ve driven. Mid range is probably best and get a windscreen and heater.

I do like a caterham however I’d be looking at the Alpine A110s or the 4c I think. I just prefer the idea of more modern crash testing.

Although I do have a motorbike.....

I tested the Alpine around Goodwood - what a fantastic little sports car. But more of a daily than a toy. I’d love one at some stage, but not until depreciation has hit (which so far, it hasn’t).

Fancied the VX220 myself - is it a handful with the extra turbo power? bye is that your grancabrio :D

fine in the dry, need to be cautious when cold. Spent quite some time getting mapping right for smooth torque curve. Had a bit of a spike for a while which coincided with slight bump coming onto main straight at Brands which was interesting.

it’s at what I consider to be the sweet spot for fast road and track. Suspension is deliberately soft to be useable and predictable, and power enough to hustle faster cars without getting too peaky/expensive/unreliable. Just don’t use it anymore.

yes, grancab is mine, main reason vx not used

Can i have your wheels please?
I had a SC 2.2, and loved it, epic bit of kit.

would do but sold the originals long time ago due to only one tyre option. Got these on a vx group buy many moons ago. Come up for sale time to time on the forum

I had them on my VX in silver, and really like the style and colour. Can swap you a set of original wheels if you like

I like the look of the Alpine, seen a few up here as there is actually a Scottish dealer.

Been on Audi, Maserati and Lotus trackways at Goodwood, always fun.

Surely a real Lotus Seven is the answer? Not dissimilar price-wise and SO much cooler.

I say this, as I still think my old ‘66 Elan was the best driving car I’ve ever owned. Should never have let it go.

I have long term ownership of both a Westfield & an Elise. Both are a hoot.
The clubbie is by far the more raw experience, preferable if you like pushing the envelope to the limit. I am 174 cm. & fit perfectly, other sizes can have difficulties, but it's nowhere near the cosy fit of an open wheeler race car so you shouldn't complain. The Elise compares with a well mannered sports race car,but lacks the savage power. You quickly tire of the contortions needed to enter & exit, altho some use the car as a daily.
Both a good buy,so it's down to personal preference.
Old clubbie joke: Bikie goes home & announces to wife he's bought a clubbie. Justifies the purchase by saying it's got four wheels so it must be twice as safe than the bike ! Got to agree.

would look epic next to the Venturi I think. In ordinary circumstance I’d think an Alpine would be very slow to depreciate however these ain’t ordinary times....

This won't be cheap but does look fun.

Almost impossible for me to get in that. Fun while there though.

(I’m sure Finbar Saunders could add something to above comment.)

What started as a look for a simple, low-spec, low-cost fun (Lotus 7 type) car for the summer has morphed somewhat. I've ended up buying a Westfield SEIGHT, which is, appropriately enough, the big daddy version.

It's got a 340bhp 3.9lt V8, giving a power-to-weight figure of a tad over 500 bhp per tonne. I've not seen/driven it yet (due to the lock-down), but imagine it'll be quite lively!!!
