I've clearly poked the hornet's nest here and all the Merc Fanboys are coming out! I must get a 500SL at some point!

Sorry to say a SL Merc has never appealed (except the old ones), probably after driving my MD's SL500 in the early mid 2000's and half the interior trim was falling off. Probably at Mercs low point as the company had a few E class Mercs that where rusty at a year old, my company Alfa 146Ti was in better nick!!

Regarding Porsche 968, what do you think about this 'Porsche approved' 944?

On the SL thing, I guess you're talking about the R230; the early R129s were incredibly well built.

The 944 looks expensive. Appears to be correct, apart from the lettering on the sills. The Lux isn't too quick though. An S2 or a Turbo is a nicer drive.

Yes would have been an R230.
Also recall when he wanted to trade it in, they wouldn't, as they had loads of secondhand ones on the forecourt they couldn't shift.

I'm no Porsche expert, far from it, but thought it was a S2, but non Turbo of course?
Edit: non S2 you are right!

No, the S2 is 3 litre. The car in the link is an earlier 2.7 litre car. They're significantly different.

Personally I’d not pay that much for a 2.7 version. As a guide, I just sold my excellent condition 3.0 S2 for £16k, and that had 90k miles on the odometer.

At towards (or over) £20k you have to be thinking S2 version.

I thought at first that it might have the standard used Porsche 2 year warranty!
However that bit on their Web site is left blank.

Mitsubishi Pajero Evolution
JDM only but quite a few have been imported.
True homologation model 2,500 made, with Paris Dakar winning history. The best still less than £20k
One issue, a bit like the 3200, is some engine parts are becoming obsolete.

lovely motors and i've been looking at these for a fair while now and so tempted in buying one for the stable, there are a few importers on ebay that are selling them anywhere between 10 and 20k

Doesn't help whenever I visit Mitzybits for any spares for my Pinin, when they are rebuilding one for themselves.

Keep getting tempted by the R129, to make it work here it needs to be over 30 years old so I am looking for an early one

If it needs to be over 30 years old, why not an R107? Way more stylish, better built as well. Mine’s 42 years old and still as good as gold - starts on the button every time, even after being ignored for 6 months each winter.

R107's are lovely (I really like them very much), there's a chunky price differential for a good one these days, compared to an equivalent R129.

All I'd say if looking at a 107, is take care with the bulkhead.

Either are great cars.

Not a fan of the R107, too US Dallas for my liking

Not sure mine looks particularly Dallas, being white with a green interior. Though it probably helps that I don’t look like Bobby Ewing and we don’t have Texan weather.:)
