The fact she is a "celebrity"or not depression, mental illness, suicide are all an issue in our society that we are not very good at dealing with. There is so much bubbling below the surface that is justified by generic comments, it's just a bad time they will get over it, why can't they just pull themselves together, with all they have why can't they face up etc. but it's just not that easy. We feel sad when people die of cancer at a young age and we should be just as concerned about suicide and its causes.

RIP Caroline, 40 is way too young

It’s all so sad and unnecessary, there needs to be better help for mental illness.
People are blaming social and traditional media but when the publicity is good for a career then it’s never mentioned only when it’s negative is there a backlash. It’s part of the fame game.
They are also accusing the CPS of a show trial but there must have been enough evidence that she smacked him with a lamp whilst he was asleep to progress to a court trial. Mental fragility does not stop justice if you have committed a crime.
I feel for the younger generation where happiness comes from how many likes and positive comments you get on Instagram. Life is about so much more .

Nobody knows what went on in their relationship apart from them , I doubt she just picked a lamp up and hit him with it for no reason, there's always two sides to every story.

I'm guessing it was the humiliation of a public trial being all over social media that drove her to it whereas for most of us it'd be 3 bored pensioners in the public gallery and 4 lines on page 22 of the local paper.

Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, people write things they'd never say to their faces

I agree with this.

I think it seems clear that she smacked her boyfriend over the head with a lamp while he was asleep. Apparently, the story is she was reading his phone, saw text messages she believed proved he was cheating on her, so hit him so hard, repeatedly, that she cut his head open and he was blood stained when the police arrived.

That’s assault, and even if he didn’t want to press charges, you can see how the CPS might have felt there was still a case to answer.

I can see it’s still a tragedy and an utterly unnecessary loss of life, but I wouldn’t place the blame on the CPS...

I cannot and will not comment on specifics of this case as I have not followed the story or the media regarding it, but having been on the receiving end of similar attacks to those suggested here - for no reason - I could and should have pressed charges as advised but chose not to. It is rarely (probably never) a one-off and there are often other factors at play (addiction, mental illness) that may not be at all obvious at the time. Often the only way to get help is to use the system. It is not ideal but these things all too often end in tragedy for all.

Recall a good friend who bought a house with his girlfriend 25 years ago. He used to call around all beat up. Lasted a few years until he got a job working overseas to get out of the relationship. So yes certainly does happen.

I agree, aren’t certain crimes, once reported to the police, are unable to be stopped until they get to the courts? Violent crime being one of them.

I think this is closest to the mark.

She'd recently lost her job, over the allegations.
The media had turned on her, over the allegations.
If she lost the case, her career would be over and she'd be vilified in the press/social media.

My guess is that she had been told she would lose the case. If you attack someone when they are sleeping, it's pretty open and shut. She'd lose.

I bet the BF is worried that social media will now blame him for her suicide.

Crazy world.

With you on newspapers Martin. Not picked one up for 20 years. They wreck people's lives and all in the name of a story. The news on TV is just as bad.
It's not just newspapers...its social media generally which drives people to these kind of desperate actions. It's so very sad...

I'd say it's more social media because that's the public, at least the papers can be bought to book if they cross the line, people say whatever they want on social media and get away with it, even billionaires

Same thing for me.....Reporters.....papers.....TV news....social media.......All reporting **** to get ratings etc.....Then add the hate and **** that people believe which is then generated on places like FB, Twitter etc and no wonder this is effecting people's lives. As you say it's so sad.....

It's a tragic situation she couldn't see a future after her caae. The reality would have no doubt been much better than what she imagined, however having been on the other side I can understand it. If she spoke to people and opened up, this may have ended so differently.

The majority of her fans, and general public are more forgiving with short memories. They'll be another scandal in a year.
