If you have double lifts. It’s 4 acres. You best be quick tho, wife views a bungalow Wednesday, I think I’m going to be back in the rat race.

Crikey....that is a fair operation. Wonder if multiple level lifts is cheaper than bigger single level footprint? I'm guessing single storey but double lifts is sweet spot.

It's shrinking fast....down to 8 now inc Wife's. A couple more to go yet in next month or two I reckon. Plenty more on here have many more than I.....and better ones.

Keep the same number, just buy smaller ones. Et voila, - a better return on your investment in acreage.

Any chance of PM'ing me more details in relation to security of the facility? I currently have one car stored just outside Southampton, costing me 120GBP per month plus VAT, however as I am not in the UK I dont get invoiced nor do I pay the VAT. It's an agricultural spec facility but looks quite good with good security. I am looking to acquire a few cars in the new few months, mainly down south, so the storage will be necessary. The facility I currently use demanded I have my own insurance - which was hard to source - and added 300GBP to my annual storage costs.

The 120 is their 'silver' package so tyres kept inflated, trickle charger, turned over and possibly run every now and then. Gold was a carcoon, bronze is no trickle charger.

Another interesting thread and food for thought.
I could fancy doing storage alongside some mechanical fettling for my retirement here in France.

often thought about finding a big old farm building and converting into car storage, there seems to be big demand these days and money for nothing, anyone ever thought about renting out car lifts/ramps on an hourly basis for diy'ers

I keep my car at a local storage 'facility' which is just a few miles from where I live, it's just the chaps house which is an old farm and he has converted 2 barns for storage and the stables into garages. I quite like keeping it there rather than home, as its no inconvenience to go and fetch it and it's always interesting to see whats hanging around when you turn up! The chap who owns it is an ex racing driver, so he is an interesting guy to chat to as well and has quite the collection himself. I remember when I first went I saw a Cobra and an old GT40, when I asked if they were replicas and he told me there were no replicas in the storage! I started off by putting the car away for the whole of winter in one of the barns, which was £22 p/w inc C-tek, cover and drip tray, and I also paid the extra £20 over 2 months for maintenance once a month, which was checking tyre pressures, rolling car forward and back and running up to temp. Could have paid £33 p/w for all of the previous plus carcoon. Now I have one of the garages which costs me £27 p/w, which is basically the same as the storage I had that includes the C-tek, cover etc, except with this I have my own key and can come and go as I please.
I reckon there is probably 50 odd cars there, so he must be earning a nice bit of cash! If I had the facility I'd definitely do it for a bit on the side!

Less insurance. I would imagine that ain't cheap.

With cars parked next to each other, with petrol tanks and electrical systems, one goes up and potentially the whole lot follows!
It is a concern of mine, with my garage under the house.
It does have advantages regarding access, temperature and humidity, but one car goes up, and the house above it too.

Was chatting to guy where I store mine yesterday. Took my idea onboard and is installing double lifts. He now has 97 cars there @£100 a month, asked me if I wanted to buy a car storage business as he’s too busy with his other businesses.....
The insurance will eat quite heavily into that...

I've had no luck selling my GS so she's going into storage next week (to make way for my Sons Ex-Works rally car)
Proper storage facility with dehumidified/heated buildings, C-tech, drip tray and tailored cover @ £23pw for the Bronze cover
The car has to have a minimum of TPFT insurance.
My guess is your own insurance covers the car and they just insure the buildings.

They should (note the word 'should') be covering their liability in case your vehicle is damaged whilst in the storage facility. Unless they explicitly say otherwise. In case you want them to run the car on a public road that is a different matter unless they have trade plates. It is a complex subject but one should check what is and is not covered by both your own and their insurance.

Just an update, we had 6 applicants for the three spaces in 2 weeks and nobody queried the price of £100 plus vat so the demand is most definitely there and anyone considering doing it should.
