Well new battery on and she’s alive again thank god, one less thing to worry about.

Think next time round I’ll go Yausa. FeeL like emailing Bosch to tell them of my distaste at an expensive battery which doesn’t live up to it

Go on:

Dear sir or madam

Having managed to drag myself out of my hospital bed after almost succumbing to Covid-19, I find that not only is there a world bog roll shortage but my car wouldn’t start. Your batteries are shittier than the sock that is no longer on my left foot.

Compensation in the form of bog roll or size 10 M&S black wool socks appreciated.

Yours faithfully

When all this is over, and whatever new normal is achieved, I for one will go to great lengths to not buy anything made in China. Ever. The actions of the CCP are reprehensible at best. 80% of test kits made in China defective, embargo of drug components, selling PPE that the Italians gave to Wuhan, back to Italy! I know this sounds xenophobic, but the government of China cannot be trusted. If I can't buy non-Chinese, I don't need it.
With you on this 100 % :clapps:

Ryan I'm glad you're back among us and on the mend. :)The battery issue is a complex one with lots of factors, but to over simplify;
  1. Green environ. efforts have made manuf. reduce the amount of lead in modern batts.
  2. Safety concerns have made manuf. more expensive.
  3. High current drain on modern cars kill batts.
  4. Almost all batts are made in China.

Good luck with that one

I've never had a problem with a bosch batt and I've fitted them to all sorts of vehicles.

I got a Yuasa, lasted a week when I left car at Donny airport, but left it on drive for 3/4 days before dropping off at garage for radiator fix, it really laboured to start, just about caught. Can't fathom it.....

No issues since but DD even under lockdown, take it to shop long way round to keep it in the mood....

See and then you get things like this. Up until now my year old Bosch has been spot on, but after charging it today and getting to 12.51V I then proceeded to watch it drop 0.01V every few seconds in front of my eyes.

Still annoys me my first battery lasted 4 years and was on car when I bought it, then a Bosch lasts a year, fek me it’s a battery not a KERS system

It's a shame you didn't keep the receipt. When my Bosch gave up after 3 years I returned it to ECP and got a new one foc.

I swear batteries are getting worse.

My Aston would occasionally go dead, every 4 months. But a small booster was all it needed.

That battery was, I think, 10 years old!

So I replaced the battery with the exact same Bosch battery.

The new battery died even more often...BUT when it died, it was completely and utterly dead. It took a huge jump to get it going again.

The 10yr old Bosch, was better than a brand new Bosch. Same make and model.

What are they changing in them

It’s the usual thing, you get what you pay for. Batteries have got (relatively) cheaper and so they have become more sensitive to deep cycling because of plate thickness and a few other factors.

Yuasa have a good reputation but all batteries are susceptible to a reduction in service life due to excessive deep cycling (discharge beyond the minimum final voltage). Never let them go completely flat, and if they do, don’t leave them flat for long periods.

One of my clients has a facility where they test batteries to confirm their service life and number of cycles so that they can be approved for use in their network. But then they buy a lot of batteries.

get a cTek harness connector permanently connected to the battery. The obstacle to using charge maintainer is actually connecting it. Put mine on charge after 7 days without use. As mentioned above ^^ usually one year guarantee minimum, no need for receipt just your bank statement / screenshot will often do.
btw keep the old battery - good for junkyard gym = kettlebell

The Bosch has to be a good battery surely?

Well fair play to ECP battery has arrived! The one in the car is still going through it’s recon but is up to 12.47V

Out of curiosity I’ll connect back up with current battery and attempt a few starts just and then check the health of the battery.

Thinking is recon current battery but change out anyway and I’ll keep it as some sort of back up
Glad you’re back to health !
For what it’s worth I’ve got an s5 Bosch in my car (the start stop version, unless they are all start stop?) ... and I sometimes leave my car for 3 weeks or more at a time. No trickle charger. Starts immediately every time

have had the battery for 2 years

Maserati battery story. Many years ago when I was single, and had my Biturbo, I had a 2nd battery wired to the lights. A switch to run them on the spare batt. without running down the primary. When I would go to a bar, I would turn the lights on with the 2nd batt. Once inside, I would pick out the prettiest girl, and sit down next to her, and wait. Not too long before someone would come in and announce "there's a red Maserati in the parking lot with the lights on ". Mumbling about Italian electrics I would ask the girl to save my seat. I would wave my keys as I went out.I was such a dog.

Yuasa are all I’ve used and better than Bosch according to quite a few on here and specialists etc...

It may be time to go down the AGM gel batteries route. After championing the Exide batteries, we have seen a few failures of late, they seem to loose peak performance after a few months.

Anyone got any experiences wit AGM gel batteries?

The Bosch one that failed after two weeks in my M3 was an AGM
