So just been out and checked the battery, bearing in mind a couple weeks before the car wouldn’t start (which was over 2 weeks ago whilst I was battling covid), I had driven 600 miles in a week. And this battery is only a year old.

So I wasn’t convinced this was the battery, however it’s at 11.51V !!

Gonna get onto ECP and get another ordered up so fingers crossed it is just the battery

11.5v is usually pretty terminal (drum roll please).

Hopefully it’s just a knackered battery.

You could have a discharge somewhere so I’d monitor the voltage of the new battery over a couple of days once you’ve connected it.

So I’ve got the ctek on it but I haven’t tried the recondition thing and just gone straight for a new battery.

Will see if it takes a charge, which it probably will but then test would be how long it holds it.

New battery on the way though. These things bloody eat batteries

If it has gone very flat sulphate forms on the plates which makes it very hard to revive. It certainly seems to be the issue. Hope the new bat sorts it out.

Mine did same on GS - even showed 12.8-13v after re-conditioning, then as soon as tried to start - dropped to 10-11v.
1 cell was no longer holding any charge....
If yours is under a year old it should have a guarantee...

I went out in our Macan the other day to Sainsbury’s and couldn’t get it to open, didn’t recognise the key. Eventually managed it then it wouldn’t start. I managed to learn how to bypass the keyless go system and spent the drive back wondering how the key had lost contact with the car in just 2 weeks of sitting around. Then I changed the battery in the key....

So I checked for email receipt, I actually save them all but must have deleted this one.

Just checked and after an hour or so is at 12.3V bit I’ve stuck it on a recondition out of curiosity. Got the new battery coming anyway.

What’s the issue here I’ve never known battery problems like it that you get with GTS, strangely enough the battery I bought the car with lasted 4 years nearly, stuck a Bosch S5 on it and it’s not lasted much more than 12 months so what gives?

I understand cat standing around isn’t great but as said why the GTS issues and why can one battery last a few years and another craps it in 12 months!

Ryan I'm glad you're back among us and on the mend. :)The battery issue is a complex one with lots of factors, but to over simplify;
  1. Green environ. efforts have made manuf. reduce the amount of lead in modern batts.
  2. Safety concerns have made manuf. more expensive.
  3. High current drain on modern cars kill batts.
  4. Almost all batts are made in China.
When all this is over, and whatever new normal is achieved, I for one will go to great lengths to not buy anything made in China. Ever. The actions of the CCP are reprehensible at best. 80% of test kits made in China defective, embargo of drug components, selling PPE that the Italians gave to Wuhan, back to Italy! I know this sounds xenophobic, but the government of China cannot be trusted. If I can't buy non-Chinese, I don't need it.

The Bosch has to be a good battery surely?

Well fair play to ECP battery has arrived! The one in the car is still going through it’s recon but is up to 12.47V

Out of curiosity I’ll connect back up with current battery and attempt a few starts just and then check the health of the battery.

Thinking is recon current battery but change out anyway and I’ll keep it as some sort of back up

We have a beautiful feature in a spare bedroom, a spare battery.

Well worth doing!

we've all been conditioned in to thinking these brands must be good with all the marketing sh1te when truth be told they're not that good, had quite a few bosch, Exide, Varta, Lucas and the like in my motors and plant machinery and never lasted to a reasonable length of time and/or kept just draining for no reason even with battery disconnects fitted, been buying Yuasa over the last few years and they have never given me any problems other than if left something on, best of luck with the Bosch

Well new battery on and she’s alive again thank god, one less thing to worry about.

Think next time round I’ll go Yausa. FeeL like emailing Bosch to tell them of my distaste at an expensive battery which doesn’t live up to it

This is the point where we, pretty much as a whole, say 'We told you so', yes? ;)

Glad life's looking up, chap!

I got a Yuasa, lasted a week when I left car at Donny airport, but left it on drive for 3/4 days before dropping off at garage for radiator fix, it really laboured to start, just about caught. Can't fathom it.....

No issues since but DD even under lockdown, take it to shop long way round to keep it in the mood....
