CAR AUCTIONS

At some level, certain cars are the equivalent of baseball cards. There will always be a buyer for a Mickey Mantle rookie card; the question is, how much you pay me?

Having had the "pleasure" of a 4C, someone would have to gift another to me...not surprised that it's not that desirable. Because I don't think it is...

They won’t let it for political reasons. As I think I’ve mentioned before, the political answer is untenable because it will destroy votes. That’s how it’s got this bad now. More of the same until it gets written off, or there’s an alternative fudge.

I think it will all come to a head when China’s falling birthrate starts to have more of a real-world effect rather than just bearish projections but that won’t be for ten/twenty years and by then India will probably be on the way up. Brazil and the continent of (china sponsored) Africa may well be there too.
I can see debt forgiveness too….. debt always seems to get bailed out….. but what sort of moral hazard does that create?
Over borrow and do the wrong thing….. not a problem, we’ve got you covered.
Appalling, why be a responsible saver then??

Oh bu66er. I might as well eat the Quavers then.
Ah, shite.

Anyone wanna buy a bag of quavers? They're no use to me now.
Hmm. It disturbs me that Phil and I both, without collaboration, find ourselves in possession of a bag of unwanted Quavers. I predict a surplus in the world supply of cheesy comestibles. A crash is imminent. This time next week they'll be worth no more than a bloody 250GTO!

The price of Quavers at the moment is over inflated and I anticipate a 'crash' in the market, or a minimum of a re-balance now that speculators realise they can no longer purchase a classic car with them.

Morals are easily forgotten. People buy The Sun, don’t they?

I’m an avowed Alfa fan but having driven one, and an Alfaworks one, a Lotus Exige’s supercharged V6 or the unfettered steering feel brilliance of a Cayman R manual is hard to ignore for the same money.
The Alpine is also a much finer car to drive and nicer inside.

Been said before, the 4C is a compromised car and despite it being an Alfa there are other things i would buy with the same money, Cayman and Alpine both higher up my list
Sure, if you want to buy quality you’d go for a Cayman. But, that said, the 4C has a lot going for it that the Cayman doesn’t - it looks like a work of art, has the carbon tub of a Supercar and, by my reckoning, values have gone up! Also, 4C production has finished and they didn’t build very many of them, compared with the Cayman. So that’s something to think about before making a balanced decision …

Not as much as it disturbs me; agreeing with a moderator must rank as the eighth deadly sin, and once committed there is no way back.

Oh the shame..... :frusty5:

It's got a cramped cockpit, poor sight lines, a pronounced lack of quality (vis-a-vis your own commentary!)...and it just wasn't fun enough to drive to overcome the other issues.

Well, some people seem to think that something is good about the 4C because, as I said, values appear to have already bottomed out and are rising. You can't say that about a Cayman, however relatively good the quality. The handling issues can now be overcome with the Alfaworks mods, and there won't be many more ICE cars produced that are so drop dead gorgeous as the 4C.

I really really wanted to like it. I was onboard with everything apart from the engine, which was neither laggy and exciting, nor linear enough to compete with a N/A or supercharged six. I even managed to get in and out ok!

Alpine is going the same way as the GR86 July next year, so if you fancy a new one get in quick!
It’s for the same reason, can’t retrofit the EU ‘safety’ camera cr@p to the windscreen for autonomous braking/lane keep assist/camera looking at your eyes in case you fall asleep, that is required to sell any new car from then.

How ironic is it that 2 cars that actually attract drivers that actually pay attention when driving are being banned because of monitoring systems being forced upon us to allegedly save people who can’t be arsed to even look where they are going…..

Brake assist?……eyes
Lane keep assist…..eyes
‘Intelligent’ speed assist? ….. that will be eyes too.

You couldn’t make it up.

Some people also bought this:

Values have also bottomed out on those...

In all seriousness, I also really wanted it...and really wanted to love it. But everything but the looks (which I agree are absolutely gorgeous...and I'm not a Cayman guy) were just underwhelming. Art hangs on the wall, unless it's Garfunkel. That would be messy.

You can actually. The Cayman R has been going up, for example. Find a low mileage manual in Peridot Green, and it’ll be a wise investment.

Purely as a driving tool (investment considerations aside, as that is a gamble), I think we can all agree that the Cayman R and Alpine knock spots off the Alfa. We all wanted the Alfa to be great - but it just isn’t. Which is a shame, as yes, it is a work of art.
