Cayman, Alpine, 4C... I'm a fan of all three, and I'm certain that all would flatter my driving skills. For rarety the Alpine or the 4C, for practicality the Cayman, for a work of art the 4C.
Yes, surely we Maserati owners know and love the flaws and eccentricity in our cars (otherwise we’d be driving Mondeos!).Cayman, Alpine, 4C... I’ve not heard that before, I personally love the looks, but different strokes for different folks as they say.I’d argue the 4c is ugly. It looks like one of those car caricatures from Max Power. The proportions are all wrong.
It’s a car that can be quite misrepresented in photos, in my opinion … The same can be said of some Maserati models. When you see them in the flesh you have a different perspective.I’d argue the 4c is ugly. It looks like one of those car caricatures from Max Power. The proportions are all wrong.
I’ve seen a few in the flesh. Theres two I see quite regularly as they hillclimb them. I just don’t like them. A bit like me then, except I don’t climb hills very often.I’ve seen a few in the flesh. Theres two I see quite regularly as they hillclimb them. I just don’t like them. Straight on from front or back they’re ok but they’re too short and too fat View attachment 111126
The 4C has SMC body panels so is immune to minor car park dents. If I owned the car on the left and knew the owner of the car on the right, I can't help feeling these two cars would be parked the other way round. Why would you have a dull Audi in the dullest of colours, and place the 4C at risk of dents? Some people need to take a look at themselves in the mirror if they consider themselves to be anything close to a petrolhead.
I see this 360 is back on C&C again. I think it made about £60k last time, didn't sell, then went up for offers and now it's back on auction again. There seem to be a lot of cars that aren't actually selling at auction for one reason or another(?) ... discussThe 4C has SMC body panels so is immune to minor car park dents.
Anyhow, we've veered way off topic... back to car auctions... discuss...
I've never thought it was a good looking car, largely on the profile as it is just too short IMHO; front/rear are ok. Maybe not ugly but I have never understood the excitement.I’d argue the 4c is ugly. It looks like one of those car caricatures from Max Power. The proportions are all wrong.
Clearly there is very little correlation between design, performance, handling, etc and future values. There are so many examples to illustrate the point but this one nails it for me;For all the merits and otherwise of the Cayman, Aloine and 4C, if you are buying for long term investment vs driving the 4C will win hands down vs the other due to rarity and perceived exotic construction.

Exactly … a carbon fibre tub is actually ‘exotic’ construction as far as I’m concerned. It’s unfortunate that other aspects of the 4C, like the plastic interior, are certainly not considered to be exotic. But, they’re not shockingly bad either. I was in one last week and I thought it was quite acceptable, somehow in keeping with the exposed carbon fibre. But that’s me making my own mind up rather than just accepting the reviews of the nay sayers … If I did that I wouldn’t be in a 3200 at the moment! For all the merits and otherwise of the Cayman, Aloine and 4C, if you are buying for long term investment vs driving the 4C will win hands down vs the other due to rarity and perceived exotic construction.

That's actually rather fascinating...are tastes that discriminating, wallets tightening...?I see this 360 is back on C&C again. But change the comparisons and you’ll get different results. Instead of a basic 996 at £20k, why not compare it to a 911 variant made in equivalent numbers as the 4C? The 911, at equal rarity, will be a better investment, as has a far bigger pool of buyers fighting over it.For all the merits and otherwise of the Cayman, Aloine and 4C, if you are buying for long term investment vs driving the 4C will win hands down vs the other due to rarity and perceived exotic construction.
